PESHAWAR: Heavy firing was reported at Bacha Khan University Charsadda on Wednesday with eyewitnesses claim to have heard a blast.

The state-run PTV quoted DSP Charsadda as saying that three armed men entered the university premises and opened fire. Television reports added that a large contingent of security forces had reached the site.

Heavy fog is impeding the operation by security forces.

Around 3,000 students are enrolled at the university.

Security forces had earlier conduction search operations in the adjoining areas and claimed the arrest of four wanted terrorists. Weapons, ammunition, army and police uniforms were also recovered from the arrested men.

There were around 600 guests today for an event (poetry event for Bacha Khan's anniversary). Total 4000+ (3000 students) people expected to be inside.
Terrorists entered taking advantage of dense fog (visibility less than 10-20 meter)

Update (10:18 am) Students have taken refuge inside the rooms. Media has contacted an employee of the university who is trapped inside a room. Live firing could be heard followed by a blast.

Update (10:19 am) So far the terrorists have not entered the main premises. However, it cannot be confirmed as heavy firing going on and due to thick fog people are not aware of the gravity of situation

Update (10:21 am) Army has reached the premises

Update (12:31 pm) Firing has stopped. Army has reported killing 4 terrorists. 2 to sniper fire.
Reports coming in about 3 terrorists hiding in a compound 1 km from the university. Sec. forces have cordoned off the house

CHARSADDA: Terrorists stormed the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda on Wednesday morning.

According to university sources the terrorists entered the university from the direction of the guest house on site a little after 9:30AM.

According to police sources, firing can be heard from inside the university where students, teachers and administration staff are present. Sources add that two security guards have been injured in exchange of fire.

Security forces are present on site and are combating the terrorists in a gunfight, but as yet are not sure how many terrorists are holed up inside the university.

According to Geo News reporter present on site, at least five injured have been taken out from the university and are being shifted to the hospital while a heavy contingent of police is present and is taking part in an operation against the armed terrorists who are said to be hiding in different parts of the university.

10:00AM - Geo News reported that students are being evacuated from classes and are being loaded onto busses present inside the university and are being shifted to safety.

10:05AM – Political figures and Senior police officials have also reached the spot and a rescue operation is being carried out. A large number of ambulances are also standing by outside the university.

Firing has stopped. Elite force is handling the situation. Army taking positions.

Just in : The guests have been escorted out safely. However, a large number of students are locked up inside the class rooms.

Total number of terrorists is not confirmed however locals have seen 3-4 people firing and running inside

An APC has entered the university. Rescue has started and ambulances have started entering the university.

It is just obvious. They were in the class rooms and they are in the class rooms. Outside there are large open laws with no place to hide. But yes, it shouldn't be reported
