Islamabad: President Pakistan Businessmen & Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), All Karachi Industrial Alliance and First Vice Chairman of the Businessmen Panel of FPCCI Mian Zahid Hussain today said tensions with Pakistan over land route to India has the potential to drive shambling Afghan economy to Stone Age.

Afghan economy is highly dependent on Pakistan therefore policymakers in Kabul should not dance on the tune of India, it said. How come a country that cannot feed its own people can think of blocking Pakistan trade with central Asia on the behest of New Delhi, said Mian Zahid Hussain.

He said that Afghanistan has committed a blunder by denying land route to Pakistan which can result in bankruptcy of that country in case Islamabad retaliated.

Mian Zahid Hussain further said that the move can cast negative shadow on exports and plans to import gas and electricity from Central Asia through CASA 1000 but there are other dimensions to the problems which Kabul cannot afford.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have issues like refugees, smuggling of narcotics, arms and ammunition and other articles, militancy and differences over counter insurgency operations.

iran , Pakistan , china , kazakistan easily can provide what they want. If not then every country has right to cash itself as middleman to sale the items to third party .

Afghanistan Will ALWAYS have a dependence on Pakistan and no amount of articles written or anyone trying to be a complete replacement for Pakistan in that country can keep dreaming of unicorns all they want. before 2001 was Afghanistan the bastion of economy? offering the longest route , deliberately ? loading & unloading at port will certainly increase the transport time & cost. Its like india providing air corridor for bhutan neither cost effective nor worth the time.

Are you out of your mind ? BY land transport Afghanistan can reach India in one day. By using karachi port it can reach India after one week. Most of agricultural products are perishable. It is quite sensible Afghanistan did ban Pakistan trade in wake of Pakistan banned their trade. TIT for TAT. This does not mean you win. No one wins. Becuause due to Afghanistan trade route ban did effect you. that is the reason crying loud now.

The simple point of the matter is that Pakistan is as precariously poised financially as Afghanistan is. Long-term prospects mean very little in this case. Forget trying to bankrupt Afghanistan and save your own economy. And even if Afghanistan becomes bankrupt, the simple fallout will be millions of more refugees in Pakistan. Pakistanis hate and cannot manage the Afghans in Pakistan right now, what will they do then?
