Tension mounts in BGB's objection over zero line fencing in Tripura

The zero line wire fencing in Kailashahar of North Tripura along Bangladesh border was suspended today for the 12th time following objection from Border Guards of the neighbouring country. The construction company has suspended the work following firing threat from Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). However, BSF and BGB finally sat for commandant level flag meeting over the issue but could not resolve.Allegedly, BGB jawans had threatened NBCC construction workers to kill them unless they stop fencing work in the morning when they start digging at zero line. Initially, BGB jawans asked them to stop working and when argued they attempted to fire, alleged Mantu Shil, a villager."The jawans not only threatened firing, they warned to burn down the village too if zero line fencing continued," Mr Shil alleged, adding that the fencing work had been held up over a decade, as fencing in 150 yard inside India as per existing plan could fence out a major portion of the village and a huge establishment.

The BSF officials, however, stated that BGB was informed about India's dissatisfaction over the act of their jawans and sought cooperation to complete the fencing along entire unfenced stretches as per the latest agreement of zero line fencing.Barbed wire fencing inside 150 yards of Zero line in 25 patched of Tripura has began with the agreement of India and Bangladesh last year to protect Indian establishment from fencing out.

Considering permanent construction in the Indian side, the Tripura government had taken up the proposal of erection of zero line fencing in 27 spots with Union External Affairs ministry two years ago.Last year, Bangladesh has agreed to do the same in 25 patches barring two spots- Sidhai (Mohanpur) of Agartala and Amritpara under Nutun Bazar police station in South Tripura.As per the Indira-Mujib agreement, no permanent structure is allowed inside 150 yards of the Indo-Bangla border. However, in some cases, it is being allowed as part of goodwill gesture between BSF and BGB."Bangladesh had agreed on principle to erect wire fencing at 150 yards inside India in 13 locations considering the establishment of important institutions, including airport, market and schools and in the first phase it allowed nine places after several stages of discussions," the BSF officials stated.According to MHA, fencing along Zero line was allowed in Kasba Kalibari, Akhaura Check post, Agartala Airport, Mohanpur Bazar, Khowai Bazar of West Tripura, Belonia and Sabroom in South Tripura and Kailashahar of North Tripura.UNI BB AD VS ADG NS1314

For 99 percent length of the fence,there is no opposition.We are actually grateful to India for this fence.It will strengthen our separate identity as well as security.It is much better to have actual barrier on the ground than just imaginary line on the map.

What backstabbing? Are you talking about hosting separatists? You hosted and funded Chakmas....the same was done by BD....and LBA doesn't mean shit....if the enclaves and exclaves were to remain as they were nobody would have given a shit....you presented your case about the maritime border in an international court and you lost..you got what you deserved...bd got what it deserved.....stop acting like you were gracious enough to do stuff you are required to do as a country.

We have agreed to settle the maritime border issue through international court, for a bigger country it is a gracious gesture towards a smaller country. We could have asked for a bilateral settlement also, and you know who would have won that.

**International court can't take up such cases without the consent of participation from both parties.

And the topic of history of backstabbing is not for you, it's for other BD members.

I thought that you have complete control of BD government and so why you worried about backstabbing then?

We do not interfere in others' internal affairs.
