Tension in Tamilandu over India's ban on Jallikattu, a 4000 yr old Dravidian tradition

.
There might be. There are speculations. But foreign money hand is seen. You see some foreign funded NGO's are also seeking a ban on Holi and Diwali. During Diwali online adds and nowadays calls have increased to stop bursting crackers and save india from pollution. It seems a systematic approach against Indian tradition.

However its my speculation. More Ironic thing is, why dont Indian NGO's collect fund and sponsor animal rights group in Spain. ?? They never do that. They cry a lot in India to get funds from abroad.
Actually speaking NGO's is actually a lucrative business Industry. Hell even BCCI have registered itself as NGO to avail tax benefits.

Their money is the main problem in here. That is why they can do some high profile cases like this in SC .
In Spain Bull fighting is quite dangerous for both bull and man even now.But there is no NGO against it.
In here now I agree with Jallikattu, since it has much upgraded in to modern levels.

The Organisers were demanding that the traditional sport should be held in connection with the Pongal festival in January mid-week. The Jallikattu held at Avaniapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur every year attracted not only sportsmen, but onlookers from various countries.

Despite the ban, the organisers and participants are preparing hundreds of bulls and were training them at various places.

Rajasekaran said bull fight in Tamilnadu is not at all cruel. On the risk faced by the sportsmen, he said it was there in every game. This could not be alibi to ban the sport.

The shops in Alanganallur and Palamedu were closed recently demanding to revive Jallikattu.

Does this mean ancient Pakistanis once used to practice this sport? Very interesting.

Cultural aspects of a society such as language, food, festivals are defined only by the people and not the nation, and the best the government can do is avoid doing anything stupid. Looking at other countries in South Asia which have fallen to civil wars and genocides over these simple problems, India has done a splendid job at holding its own and accommodating different cultures and peoples.

The lesson: reach a middle ground over the issue, learn from your neighbours, march on.

My heard bleeds for the people of tamilnad.I wish one day seperated like sri lanka they will be not under the hinduvta's forceful commands and i can assure you that, the day is not far

Just as far as the day Kashmir or Bengal goes, eh?

Jallikattu should not be banned. It is an age old Hindu tradition that involves no animal torture. But yes, it should be properly regulated.

.
soon Jallikattu will be extinct in Tamilnadu, thanks to all the anti Tamil outfits in India .... but it will survive or be revived in its full glory in Myanmar, which is free of anti Tamil outfits

.
It will be shame if our Tamil cousins stopped playing this game. Maybe GoP should do something about bringing ancient game back to Pakistan.

MADURAI: Despite the Supreme Court ban on jallikattu is in vogue, residents of Alanganallur, Palamedu have started to make preliminary arrangements to conduct the annual event in January 2015.

Preliminary preparations are on to hold jallikattu - TOI Mobile | The Times of India Mobile Site

Few years back also jallikattu got banned by the SC. Preparation went ahead irrespective of the SC ban... Preparations going on this time as well and it should happen even if the court order isn't reversed, no court has the right to intervene in our customs or tradition... This is where TN people misses its iron lady JAYA, current CM panneer despite from the southern district not very much active on this issue like JAYA....

its a pity that GoP sees Tamils through its India lens . Its high time for GoP to recognise its cultural link to Tamils as Tamilnadu has nothing in common with India.

Over 40 members of the Naam Tamizhar Katchi were arrested in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu on Saturday for attempting to block a train demanding the lifting of ban on “jallikattu.”

The party members also took two bulls along with them to block the Tiruchi-Manamadurai passenger train before the police detained them, The Hindu reported.

“Jallikattu was a sport of valour organised in villages across the State. The ban on the sport amounted to destroying the Tamil culture and tradition,” K. Muruganandam, the joint secretary of the Ramanathapuram committee of the party said.

He also used the occasion to criticize the union government for its double speaks. He said that while BJP’s Menaka Gandhi was opposed to the sport, Subramanian Swamy was in favour of it and had said that he would take up the matter legally.

Group attempts to stage rail roko for lifting Jallikattu ban, warns state-wide protest if ban not revoked

I have already booked my tickets to my home town MADURAI for pongal. As usual, this year also it must happen, its our pride... Madurai la poranthutu kovam varama eppadi irukkum, jallikatta ban pannum pothu...
