India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), the Tejas, will fire US- and Russian-origin missiles at an Indian Air Force show, ‘Iron Fist-2016’, scheduled to be held in Rajasthan on March 18.The jet is on its way to achieve final operational clearance and induction into the Indian Air Force (IAF).The IAF has confirmed that the Tejas jet will be flying at the IAF exercise, ‘Iron Fist-2016’, in Rajasthan on March 18.

The Tejas will fire the beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile, the R-73 of Russian origin, and the precision laser-guided bomb Griffen missile, produced by US company Raytheon.‘Iron Fist’ is IAF’s largest fire power demonstration event with the network-centric capabilities being used by planes.Air Marshal B.S. Dhanoa, Vice-Chief of the IAF, said on Thursday that the LCA shall do both tasks in a single flight.

The exercise will display the ‘capability to punish’, said the IAF Vice-Chief.The IAF had demonstrated its day-dusk-night operational capabilities during ‘Iron Fist-2013’.Meanwhile, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), the producer of the plane, has integrated a new quartz radome radar from Cobham, UK. The radar was flight-tested in the last week of February and is expected to increase the radar range to 80 km and beyond.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has decided to locally produce 106 upgraded Light Combat Aircraft Tejas jets to replace the ageing fleet of MiG fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The “Tejas Mark 1-A” will have 43 improvements over the existing Tejas currently being test-flown by the IAF for various parameters and slated for final operation clearance in March. The existing project is running years behind schedule. The Ministry of Defence has set a 2018 deadline for the first aircraft to be ready with a target to complete its production by 2022-2023.

The HAL has been asked to produce 16 jets annually and a Rs 1,252-crore modernisation plan has been okayed to ramp up capacities from the present six-seven planes annually. The decision will go a long way in keeping the IAF battle-ready. The upgraded jets will fill the void created by MiG-21s and MiG-27s that will be phased out by 2022.There are 260 Soviet-era single-engine MiG-21 and MiG-27 jets in the IAF fleet. The Air Force needs 400 jets over the next 10 years.

On topic, I think the reporter is mistaken that the Tejas will fire Raytheon's Griffin. I think it is probably the Israeli IAI Griffin, which is a bomb, not a missile, and is already widely operational in the IAF.

To the best of my knowledge, Raytheon's Griffin has not been exported.

I don't need to mock your so called indigenous crap, the whole world is. No run a long and go and watch some dumb cartoon for 2 year olds.

The only people being ridiculed and mucking about, is you who come to an enemies forum to chest thump and get over their inferiority complex! No self respecting person would do that!!

Grow up.

Did you notice that your troll post has already been deleted? That should give you a hint what the management thinks about who the BS spewing idiot is.

Damn, I can't believe I responded to this fellow again. An unexpected holiday left me with too much time on my hands. I'll stop now, I shouldn't waste a precious holiday with those unworthy of attention.

On topic, does anybody know for sure about Griffin? It has to be IAI's LGB, right?
Griffin is a IAI product. the article is poorly written, R73 is a wvr missile, not bvr.

Please ignore flamebaits, and dont get involved in derailments.

You're probably right that its the Israeli LGB, and not Raytheon's PGM:

Griffin, as seen here in a KC-130J's "Derringer door"

Or here on an MC-130's "Gunslinger" rack

Hasn't been exported to India, and may not have been exported at all.

That's what I thought. Tejas has not been integrated with any American missiles - I don't think any aircraft in the IAF has been.

Please ignore flamebaits, and dont get involved in derailments.

I know, my mistake.

I know. The IAF uses several Israeli bombs (bomb kits) including Spice (on order) and Griffin.

But there's a difference between IAI's Griffin 3 add-on kit:

And Raytheon's AGM 176 Griffin:

The OP says US Griffin missile, but that's probably not the case. Rather the Tejas is likely to be dropping a bomb fitted with Israel's Griffin PGM kit.

Just trying to clarify a likely error in the OP.

It wasn't a flame bait. India does produce junk like Dhruv, so it was a very genuine question. After all there is a reason why it gets towed on trailers during republic day parades.

Secondly, when you are rude with someone, don't expect the other person to respect you. But I don't expect you to understand that.
ignorance is good substitute for knowledge only when u keep it to yourself.

It's usual poor journalism, defence and auto news are the areas in India where most junior journalists cut there teeth, and thus you see poor research going into such articles.

You shouldn't have quoted me, IF you weren't addressing me. Your bias is blinding you as usual.
Tejas to fire US, Russian missiles at IAF show
dude, what is wrong with you , I had tagged Oscar, you were the one who quoted me..

@WebMaster @waz @Horus @HRK You need to clean up this forum and put two bit clueless idiots, who can't respect people in their place, let them go spew BS and crap on a third rate indian forum.
Briefly the JF-17 crash occurred after it had completed more than 10.000 sorties, now the Tejas, which started life a decade earlier than JF-17 has so far managed only about 3000 sorties.....and while after 20+ years most aircraft are nearing their first service life, the Tejas OTOH is still going through a testing phase and while we take confidence of displaying JF-17 above our capital, others get their kicks from seeing their pride being dragged on a trailer.....i guess we all have our categories, as for some cheap shot individuals, it's a well known fact that for the JF-17, all the initial testing and evaluation took place in China.... and that's where the prototypes were built and tested and this is how they looked.

You seem to be high on something, or is it just your ego as usual?
I don't wan't to be disrespectful to title holders here, but you quoted me not me. If you have problem understanding that is not my problem.

@Slav Defence @Horus @WebMaster @Oscar @Horus Another personal remark and I will start rating posts on their merit.

BS.There are more than 200 Dhruvs up and flying with several variant of it.

Its in active service in more than 5 countries even a naval version and around 20 accidents including Ecuadorian Dhruva.

I thought Slav Defence wrote a list of rules, one of which is that title holders can't negatively rate other title holders?

That was when Slav Defence was made a mod a while back.
