THJC-REPUBLICDAYPARADEREHEARSAL

IAF had recently told the government that the LCA did not meet its requirements

In the face of the Air Force raising questions about the capability of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, the government is now aiming to install capability enhancements and speed up the rate of production.

“The production of Tejas Mk-1A will begin in 2019. Most of the 43 improvements have already been made and the tender process to install an Advanced Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and Self-Protection Jammer is under way. A refuelling probe would also be added to increase range,” a source said.

While the design cannot be changed and endurance improved as it is powered by the GE-404 engine, the enhancements will increase the capability of the aircraft, the source said. The IAF had told the government that Tejas did not meet its requirements. IAF was in the process of issuing a tender for the procurement of 100 jets through the Strategic partnership mode, for which the contenders were Lockheed F-16 and SAAB Gripen. Lockheed had tied up with Tata group and SAAB with the Adani group to build them locally if selected.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was undertaking the enhancements and was in the process of setting up another assembly line at a cost of ₹130 crore to increase production rate from the present eight to 16. The second line would be ready by 2019 when Mk-1A began production, the source stated.

When your toilet bowl leaks, shining it or perfuming it is not going to help. You got to fix the leak. I am surprised that instead of eliminating real issues, they want to make it more techy.
:pop:

So what is the real issue that you are talking about ?

India is a software focused country so it’s obviously easy to get things done that way. Hardware will have to wait.

Now that works for IAF or not is another matter altogether.

Rejecting Arjun tanks, Tejas jets bodes well for 'Make in India', but introspection needed on defence priorities

If one is to go by the recent news reports, the Indian military has effectively junked two flagship desi weapons platforms — Arjun Main Battle Tank and Tejas Light Combat Aircraft.

What has triggered these reports are two developments, first, the Indian Army's issue of preliminary tender last week for next-generation tanks called 'Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCV)' and the Indian Air Force's strong pitch for a single engine fighter jets. These two instances have been taken as decisive examples of the Indian military's clear preference for foreign equipment over their indigenous equivalents or rather outdated 'equivalents'

Having worked for years on Soviet tanks, the Arjun MBT was, strictly speaking, a downgrade for the Indian Army. The same goes for the Tejas LCA and the Indian Air Force, especially considering the IAF is being promised Rafale — the 'Rolls Royce’ of fighter aircraft — and has worked on Sukhoi jets.

That's precisely correct about China. First they Indians ignore Chinese progress, next they laugh at Chinese advancement, then they 'talk about winning over Chinese progress and now they lost he race. :china:

Next time, bring a copy of Windows, dump your rifle and see if you can fight a war.

In every project the low hanging fruits get addressed first when it comes to customer satisfaction and my point was just that.

There was no mention of not looking at hardware at all. The hardware part is where we lack and it’s a slow process and slower when it comes to DRDO. But we will eventually get there and yes we will be behind China. We are ok with that.

but when they are flying you call them Thunder.
Stop seducing yourself by imagining you built some thunders. What is trying to fly in your skies is called Tejas. Aren't you even slightest proud of them that you don't wana name them? :p

  • First we laugh at you,
  • Then the world laughs at you,
  • Then you laugh at yourself,
  • Then you decide to improve Tejas one more time.
