What's new

Tata Nano will be assembled and sold in Pakistan

Don't expect price to be lower than 3 lac. Probably it would be 3.25 lac considering import duties and profit margin of assembling line. The more decent and higher version is going to cost you around 4 lac. This is all due to import duties and profit margins. So please don't dream that it would be like purchasing car instead of bike. It is like purchasing new car rather than old.

to tell you the truth, its not going to do business. its going to be utter failure, even our kids are gonna say we dont want to sit or drive on toy car.

Its total crap, no one in Pakistan wants that piece of junk. and most importantly, Pakistan must not allow this, why support the economy of an enemy we should support our own auto industry.

To support you don't need to do anything than buying. So please buy it and support industry.

If I were Tata's decision maker, I would have given it a thorough research before entering a hostile market. But i know they are professionals and I'm sure they would have done just that.

Tata is not coming into your country. Its some company in your country asking for Tata nano to be built in Pakistan.

For a country whose annual car sales are less than 150000, I don't think Tata would be too much worried. Even if it captures 10% of the market, that's only 15000 per year. They sell that many in a month in India.

Frankly, India with a car sales of close to 2 million per year and growing at over 30%, one would think they would concentrate here.

Tata has Nano Variants for Taxi segment Hopefully replacing the noisy piaggio diesel rickshaws. it is called Magic Iris.

2011 Tata Magic Iris Passenger Carrier
Almost a year ago, Tata Motors Limited launched the Magic Iris Passenger Carrier in Jaipur as a part of a phased experimental launch. Now, almost a year later, both the Tata Magic Iris and it’s pick up version, the Ace Zip have been launched for sales in Maharashtra. Both the Tata Magic Iris and the ACE Zip form a part of Tata Motors’ low cost transportation platform.

The Tata Magic Iris can carry four passengers apart from the driver and is much more safer than an autorickshaw as it comes with an all metal body replete with doors and a full complement of four wheels. Also, Tata Motors claims that the Magic Iris is a much more comfortable alternate to the autorickshaw due to it’s car like independent McPherson strut suspension.

That apart, the Magic Iris also features class leading safety features like seat belts and also comes with an indirect injection diesel engine that is expected to be significantly more frugal than that of an autorickshaw, while maintenance costs too could be lower. Priced at INR 1.95 Lakhs, Ex-Showroom Thane, the Tata Magic Iris could develop as a viable urban as well as rural transport alternative.

Coming to the Tata Magic Zip, this mini pick up is essentially the pick up version of the Tata Magic Iris with a payload of 600 kg, which means that it is Tata Motors’ Mahindra Gio challenger. Powering both the Magic Iris and the Ace Zip is a 611cc, 11 Bhp-31 Nm indirect injection diesel engine. A 25 KMPL fuel economy figure on diesel would be a realistic figure to expect from the Magic Iris and the Ace Zip.

They will assemble the car in Pakistan, hence import duty will hardly play any role.. The cheaper version should be around PKR 0.250 Million IMO.

The only thing I hate about TATA is the name. Very horrible.

Doesnt sound cool, when you say "Im gonna buy a tata"

I don't think anyone will buy it if it costs more than 2lac PKR, people will prefer to buy used Mehran, khyber or swift type cars rather than buying soo small car. In my personnal opinion the car should not cost more than 1.5lacsPKR.

Some people saying 3 to 3.5 lacs, so let me tell you in this much money one can easily get a Mehran 0meter with CNG kit installed or even used cultus can be bought so why the hell ppl will go to buy Nano car? No offence.

Well if it does make it across the border and does not get stuck up in politics, i would definitely want to buy one. By the way any Indians on this forum who drive one of these?

For the past 14 months, I own a Nano and it is a fantastic car.

We have done over 13,000 kms and can safely state that buying a Nano is one of the best decisions that we have ever taken. Apart from intercity driving, our Nano has also done highway drives of 300-600 kms (in a day...) to neighbouring towns and cities. The high technology engine ensures a great economy and ample power to run at 90 - 100 km/h with a full load (of up to 5 full sized people).

A high ground clearance and excellent traction allows the car to drive on off road, rough track, on steep slopes and into axle deep water. The car has tons of interior space (even on the back seat with the front seat fully to rear position, or in the front seat, with the front seat fully to the forward position) and a great headroom - even large sized or extra tall people easily sit inside the car with great comfort.

The Nano has a powerful air conditioner and heating too. Getting into the car is a breeze - the large sized doors open wide and the base height is such that one has to only rest their rear onto the seat and swing the legs in - no crouching or getting into cramped spaces.

Power windows, central locking, cheap spare parts, a brilliant electrical system and a virtual maintenance free working - we could not have asked for more in the Rs. 2.3 lakhs we paid for our Nano.

Please feel free to ask any queries about the Nano from an actual (Indian) user.
