KARACHI: A Pakistan Navy officer was killed when gunmen opened fire at his car near gate 15 of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Wednesday, Express News reported.
According to security sources, it was a targeted attack on Lieutenant Commander Azeem Haider, and all navy officers had been earlier informed of a possible attack.
The officer got three bullet injuries to his chest and was shifted to PNS Shifa Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
It was earlier reported that Lt Haider was investigating the PNS Mehran attack, but security sources denied the officers involvement in the investigation.
Targeted killings have been on the rise in Karachi at the same time when the Supreme Court is hearing a suo motu case on the law and order situation in the city.
Rangers have also been given additional powers to deal with the ongoing violence and to carry out security operations.
