Their M1's are the only Tanks capable of truly taking on the israelis, and God forbid those get taken out or they run out of major supply parts (which is very likely since they only produce 40% of the Tank in house), their reserve Tanks wouldn't stand a chance against israeli armor not to mention israel would have the unconditional support of the US and major European countries.

Majority of Egyptian armed forces uses American equipment, in any event of a conflict with israel, having American weapons as a large portion of your arsenal is certainly not an advantage.

Unfortunately people forget to learn this lesson again and again.

The best their airforce has to offer is the F16. Israel has a larger F-16 fleet and F-15's and F-15 Strike eagle, with F-35 to be included. All upgraded with their own avionic systems, and their own missle systems.
Combine that with the training and experiance of Israeli pilots, and you have a very potent airforce. I just cannot see how Egypt has an advantage. The Soviets are no longer there to supply SAM's or Saggars.

Secondly the M1 tanks are the basic versions not the M1A2's used by the US army.

Egypt is not known for bragging, it is very secretive about its warfare capacities and capabilities so count at least 3 or 4 times what you see and know about Egypt's armed forces.

They have beaten to death the Israelis and their western weapons in 1973 with the soviet weapon's tech.
It should tell you that wars are not won by the tech but rather by the strategists behind them and mainly the soldiers fighting them.
And the best thing about the Egyptian Armed Forces is that it has both soviet and western best military tech in Inventory and well mastered, add to this a military industry of its own.

War is not fought only on equipments other factors are equally important look the total geographical area and depth of Israel. have a deep look on geopolitics of the region if Egypt abandons the Camp David then with in a week Jordan will have to abort its peace treaty with Israel, witting or unwittingly. We have to see a non Arab major regional power, Turkey that is also on odd with Israel, what i see a very scare future for Israel and it will have to think deep for its existence in the Middle East

2 every egyptian knows that the west cant be trusted and i am sure that our army is perpared for this
3 we are not using the western doctrine of air defense defending our sky with jets we have a very large ground air defence well trained and equipped and we also have a lot of experience from dealing with isreal dont worry about us

Eygpt needs a better air-force to counter Israel if they want..meaning they need to get the F-16s with AIM120, if they cant the F-16s are practically useless.
then they need a good BVR/Multirolefighter. they can choose from cheaper one like, mig29,grippen,j-10 and or jf-17 or older mirage2000s
mig29 seems to be worst option due to its older flight controls

secondly they do control gas supplies to Israel
lastly i dont think so there is any chance of clash between them as relationship has been stable for a long time now with vast trade interests

no weapons have kill switches, otherwise USA would have provided them with AIM120 and F-15s they asked for...
the F-16s are pretty useless in absence of aim 120

A good portion of their Jets are not produced in house, their best combat aircraft the F-16 which i believe they have 200 of them, none of their components are produced in Egypt. Secondly the F-16's do not have BVR capabilities, now that is a handicap that the aircraft that make up a huge chunk of your air force do not have BVR capabilities. Also these F-16's are susceptible to arms embargo from America.

Now coming to their Tanks, according to Janes defence Egypt only produces 40% of the Abrams in house, 60% is shipped from the US for final assembly in Egypt:

Late in 1988 the US and Egypt signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) allowing Egypt to co-produce up to 555 General Dynamics Land Systems M1A1 Abrams MBTs. Under the terms of this first MoU some 40 per cent of the tank's components would be manufactured in Egypt with the remainder being produced in the US and shipped to Egypt for final assembly.

So in event of a war with israel i don't think US would continue to ship that 60%.

Egypt has a large quantity of SAM's to make up for their lack of BVR capabilities in their air force. But the problem is israel has satellites that can locate and pin point their locations to their cruise missiles and take them out.

IMHO, Egypt's best bet is fighting a defensive war, if they go on the offensive then they will risk losing valuable men and machine far quicker than they would in a defensive war.

Besides, lets not forget, israel is the daddy of the West, so whatever West gives to Arabs they only give better to israel.

Unfortunately that is true, Egypt's best is israel's not so best. Every aircraft in the israeli arsenal is BVR capable, from their F-16's to their F-15's.

The thing is the M1A1 was only effective against outdated Iraqi Tanks, its never faced a potent threat of equal or superior capabilities in the battlefield. Not sure how an M1A1 would fare against a Merkeva.
