US says Taliban who shot at US helicopter dead

The Taliban who shot at a US military helicopter which crashed, leaving 38 American and Afghan troops dead, have been killed, a US commander has said.

General John Allen, US forces commander in Afghanistan, said those responsible had been targeted in an air strike.

Separately, Nato said in a statement the strike had killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired at the helicopter.

The dead included Navy Seals, US Air Force personnel and other groups.

Many of those killed in Saturday's crash were members of Seal Team Six, the elite special forces unit whose members undertook the May raid into Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

"The strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired the shot associated with the August 6th downing of the CH-47 helicopter," the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) statement said.

Speaking to reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday, Mr Allen said international forces learned to where the insurgents had fled, sought them out and killed them.

"We dealt with them in a kinetic strike," Mr Allen said.

Hmmm....
I sometimes even doubt the killing of Osama Bin laden....:undecided:

.
Sweet revenge. No doubt he was killed because he bragged too much. Somebody snitched on him.

.
I doubt that the Taliban would be resting their and praying to be hit by an Air Strike. They must have immidiately relocated following their deadliest hit ever, wary of backlash.

America's morale has been hit. They are just trying to pump it up...

Why would they be wary of backlash? They hit the helo and go back to their homes. Usually a village. Its not like the U.S. military was watching them. Or somebody snitching on them.

Too little too late.

Taliban are there to die afterall. And this is not the first time that ISAF forces have killed them. Don't know why they are showing two articles on every major news site......is it like something big that they scored? I mean, seriously........get out of Afghanistan and stop fooling yourself.

To quote (one of my most hated people of all time) Mahatma Gandhi- " an eye for an eye, makes the whole world blind".

The US needs to get its forces out of there- they went in to get Bin Laden, they have done that but in the process have got tangled up in reconstruction efforts and nation building- never part of the initial plan. The US have woken up to the fact that AQ and its affiliates have spread their evil web to far beyond Afghanistan's Borders and, well, Afghanistan is only a small part of the puzzle and their real nemesis lies across the border.

Its ironic that the initial plan post 9/11 was small, highly mobile SOF teams to hunt and kill AQ leaders and the planners of 9/11. It was political meddling that lead to greater numbers and regular troops getting involved that lead to the eventual full scale invasion.

If they get out future tragic losses of such heroes could be avoided. Unfortunately I fear thar the Afghan people have much darker days to come as the Taliban scum count down the days till ISAF pull out.

It was the deadliest day ever for someone, who also had an operation left incomplete. Won't that someone return in shining armour, smelling for blood, to teach Taliban a lesson by decimating their homes, as they bruised its ego.

The Heli-Killers must have gone, sort of underground, atleast for few days.

US should avenge equals. US Forces & Taliban are never a fair match. Taliban never threatened US, what brought them here then for bloodbath when Taliban were ready to extradiate OBL...

I am not a Taliban sympathiser but neither do I support the Afghan occupation by the US.

America knows this because of it's state of the art data mining software it buys from it's contracting companies.
