Taliban seize dozens of security posts, at least 37 soldiers missing in Urozgan

Taliban militants have sized dozens of security posts while 37 soldiers have gone missing in restive Urozgan province.

Mohammad Hanif Hanafi a senator says that before Taliban cold run over the check posts in Khas Urozgan and Dehrawould districts a number of soldiers committed suicide in the fear not to be brutally killed by Taliban.

He said a number of other security posts are under serious threat of the militant group and over 50 soldiers are facing a serious threat in these posts.

In Khas Urozgan district at least 37 soldiers have gone missing from their posts.

There are conflicting reports about them. According to some reports the soldiers have escaped from their posts after they run out of ammunition but some other reports suggest that the soldiers have joined hands with Taliban.

But Abdul Karim Karimi, governor for Khas Urozgan says that a number of these soldiers have been executed by Taliban.

Local residents in Khas Urozgan say there are serious clashes between security forces and Taliban since about two weeks in this district.

According to these residents Taliban are in about a kilometer distance from the capital city of this district.

The more the Taliban attack, the quicker the recent AF-PAK bonhomie unravels. Its not good, Pakistan really ought to cut support of Taliban if not directly go after them, but its the reality which Ghani sa'ab will have to face sooner or later.

Ghani need only ask Pakistan for air cover. The Americans pay for the air blitz out of the FMF. ANA forces make the ground surge. It's doable. Ghani need only ask. From what I understand Pakistan is ready to extend such cooperation.

I've lived in this country from the very start of the war on terror and I've never seen our forces and political machinery go after terrorism in the manner they're doing now. Cities, villages, mountain passes, forests, the internet...terrorists have no place in Pakistan anymore. On the subject, I certainly do hope we give provincial status to FATA and let it share the success story of Pakistan, as it is written in the coming decade.

The only thing unravelling are India's Central Asian dreams. America (and the NATO allies) have placed a strong emphasis on reconciling Af-Pak ties and America's exit strategy is all about strengthening Afghanistan through a strong and supportive Pakistan. How else do you explain that, after a decade of Indian support and investment, Afghanistan brushed them aside overnight and became a Pakistani friend (without Indian consultation and to their utter amazement if I may add).

There are a lot of people involved in this Second Great Game and India may have to take the backseat while the big boys play it out.
