A stable, peaceful well governed Afghanistan is not in the best interest of some powerful deeply rooted elements on both sides of the AfPak border. Shutting your borders and hoping the problem goes away is not going to work either. It will take a massive violent effort to establish the rule of law and dominion over these lands.

AfgPak Border region is almost impossible to govern because of the People/Geographic and Tribal Customs.

Afghanistan's history of 40 years of fighting has made this conflict self perpetuating. Multiple factions have deep animosities toward the other factions. And no side really wants peace....they only want the other side to submit or suffer (and this attitude also exists in the current regime in Kabul). All factions are heavily armed and experienced in warfare. It was naïve of western actors to think this self perpetuating feud would magically shut off after a new government was setup in Kabul (especially when some factions/interests were excluded). In many ways the western presence only fed the monster.

I don't see a happy ending here. Neither side can deliver a knockout blow to the other. The Taliban may win in time and its not gonna be pretty.

US officials told The Associated Press news agency on Thursday that roughly 650 US soldiers were expected to remain in Afghanistan to provide security for diplomats after Washington pulled its forces out to end its 20-year military presence in the country.
US is stuck and will remain stuck in Afghanistan forver. There is no way out , Russia and China are going to make the Americans bleed in Afghanistan.

Turkey won't send any additional troops according to the Turkish Defense Minister. Moreover, the Turkish presence is non-combatant in nature, it's only for providing technical assistance to run the airport....

Question is - Is turmoil in Afghanistan in the interests of pakistan?

What will Pakistan do if demands for pakhtunistan will increase? Remember, pakistan could not make taliban accept Durand line even when taliban recognized by 3 nations (pak being one of them) earlier.

Now, lot will depend on if there will be civil war in Afghanistan or not. 20 years of American help got wasted.

I am an American citizen. I think USA should have left Afghanistan 10 years ago. American leadership is so dumb. They just don't realise.
