Amid concerns over possible fallout of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in Jammu and Kashmir, US Congressman Michael Waltz has said the insurgent group's links to Lashkar-e-Taiba could create serious terror issues in the Union Territory.

ver the past several weeks, top diplomats and defence experts have raised concerns that the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan could impact the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, owing to the insurgent group’s close ties to Pakistan’s ISI and regional terror outfits. Now, lending further credence to these apprehensions, US Congressman Michael Waltz has said a resurgent Taliban means an escalation of terror-related violence in the Union Territory.

In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Michael Waltz, a Republican representing Florida’s 6th Congressional District, said that with the Taliban in power in Afghanistan, “there will be Al Qaeda 3.0. The Taliban-Lashkar-e-Taiba links will create serious terror issues in Kashmir.”

Waltz, a former Green Beret who served in Afghanistan, also made the oft-repeated claim that Pakistan was tacitly supporting the hardline Islamist group.

“Pakistan supports these terror groups -- the Haqqanis, LeT and the Taliban. Pakistan should be held accountable,” he said.

The combat veteran said it was disheartening to see the Taliban wrest control of the country in a weeks-long blitz despite 20 years of US military presence.

Asked about the holdout province of Panjshir, Waltz said he fully supported the resistance forces’ stand against the Taliban. He stated that according to the provisions of the Afghan constitution, the US government should have recognised deposed vice president Amrullah Saleh, currently believed to be in Panjshir, as the acting president after Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

“I have asked for report on whether the Pakistani military is supporting the Taliban offensive within Afghanistan and in Panjshir. If true, there should be action against them,” he said.

Tearing into US President Joe Biden, Waltz said his “shameful” actions and refusal to budge from the August 31 deadline for the withdrawal of US troops’ had led to many Americans and Afghan allies being left behind, at the mercy of the Taliban and their harsh interpretation of Sharia Law.

The US Congressman also revealed that as the Taliban was closing in on Kabul, former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani had asked the American military to provide support to put up a fight against the advancing insurgents.

“Ghani had no plans of fleeing Kabul. He kept asking for support. Afghan Forces would not have surrendered had they got the support (air support especially) that US promised them,” said Waltz.

He also rued the strategic losses which the US had encountered with the pullout from Afghanistan. “Evacuating Bagram Airbase... US has lost a huge strategic space vis-a-vis China and Russia,” he said.

He is speaking the Indian language, hope he was wearing Sari too while giving the interview. Wear a bendia and show me a tumkka you can be a winner of the year award for being a monkey.
It's people like this congressman, who are more concerned about the welfare and interests of other countries than the US. It's people like him who wasted trillions of dollars of US tax payer money on foreign interventions.

Bad times for India and its stooges, nothing going their way. The good thing is the worst is yet to come.

I think Taliban should carry a flower in the barrel of their guns to show their softer side and offer all the " Indian mehlians" who are unhappy with their partners in crime, free sight seeing of green valleys to improve their image.

The Republican congressman is more intent on blaming the exit fiasco on the Democratic President than anything else.

Taliban or no Taliban the life expectancy of any one who picks up a gun against the state is less anyway and that's not going to change.

You cannot defeat an enemy who looks into the barrel of a gun and sees paradise. Russians and Yanks have learnt that the hard way. You refuse to admit that despite thousand years of taking beatings from Muslims.

It's just a matter of time... No oppression lasts forever
