To be fair it is a private business and they can pretty much do any thing they want barring laws/regulations and/or public pressure.

You must be smoking something strong or getting old are you.?That means you must support discrimination based upon race.
If one customer complains of my black waiter, then I must be in the right for firing him.
What harm did the Taiwanese waitress did to the business?
Americans should drop the facade. In front pretend peacemakers but behind are instigators. That means you must support discrimination based upon race.

So if a US employer fire a Chinese employee because of his/her ethnicity, you would not call it frivolous.
Chinese always look down on those who forget their blood and ancestors. "Banana" is a bad word in Chinese for those who are yellow outside and white inside. This is part of Chinese culture. What did the waitress do? She claimed to be Taiwanese. How does that affect a business in Australia?
NY Times? Neocon website? What good thing can they say about China besides only manipulate bad things ? Blunt lies and propaganda news. This was quite a sad read.
It is clear the Chinese don't understand how democracy works.
Australia is a little country in terms of population - so they are pushing it around. They would dare not try this in the US.

SYDNEY, Australia — During her second week waitressing at a barbecue restaurant in Sydney, a customer asked Yating Yang if she was Chinese. “No, I’m Taiwanese,” she said.
Her boss, who was from mainland China, never gave her another shift.
Man-Tzu Tuan said her loyalty test came even sooner: on her first day at a hot pot restaurant in a comfortable Sydney suburb. “Is Taiwan part of China?” her manager asked in Mandarin over a walkie talkie. “No, definitely not,” she said.
A half-hour later, she was fired.
China’s assertiveness has already set off alarms in Australia, with officials warning that Beijing has been meddling in Australian politics more than the public realizes. But the experiences of Ms. Yang and Ms. Tuan — along with many others — reveal how Chinese nationalism is also affecting private enterprise and, in some cases, leading to accusations of discrimination.
Australia’s fair work laws make clear that an employer cannot discriminate against an employee or prospective employee because of the person’s “political opinion, national extraction or social origin.” But experts and Taiwanese workers say that is exactly what many Chinese business owners are doing, with few repercussions.

Yes, Taiwan is so renegade than India and USA both recognized one China policy and no diplomatic ties with Taiwan but PRC? Why Indian no balls to recognized Taiwan? I dare you. Come on. Show your mighty Indian courage instead of posting BS than makes India looks small only.Given India doesn't have a renegade province like Taiwan with its own currency, trade, rule and foreign relations. not really much to relate.
You should ask this to Ukraine and Georgia.
Spin it all you want, but I have been on this forum long enough to know from reading you guys, race and ideology goes hand-in-hand.There is a difference between racial/ethnic discrimination from political/ideological "discrimination", one being the former is an inherit characteristic while the latter is formed opinion, and another being the former is legally codified in all states, while the latter is not. FYI Taiwanese is not a race nor ethnicity, as they are ethnic HAN.

So for money you are willing to compromise upon your nation's integrity?Taiwan still invest billions of dollars in mainland China and help us building up our semiconductor industries. Why shall PRC beat the hand that helps us at the moment?
Its precisely because recognition of India, USA and several other countries of Taiwan being part of China makes it a renegade province
In absence of international recognition Taiwan as part of China. Taiwan would be considered an independent nation rather than a renegade province.

Guess current state of Taiwan is not manifestation of CPC 's communist ideology perversion but in general its populace being sell outs

The bottom line is that if you chose one component of a person as reason for discrimination, you opened the door for others to pick you apart and discriminate you the way they see fit.
If you carry a gun or if you are coughing heavily, it is legitimate to bar you from entering my business. A gun or the flu can actually threaten people, but they are temporary. Once you removed your gun or recovered from the flu, I will welcome your business. Your skin color I cannot discriminate. Your politics can do no harm to my business, so I can sell you things or even hire you as long as you are willing to work.
That means you must support discrimination based upon race.
