the article is ridiculous, more propaganda than reality. we (Vietnam) have no plan to start a war in the south china sea, least against Taiwan. if anyone, it is commie China, that wants to see blood in the sea.

Taiwan is considering deploying the obsolete US-built RIM-72C Sea Chaparral to Taiping Island, the largest of the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, Lieutenant General Kao Tien-chung, deputy defense minister, told ruling Kuomintang legislator Lin Yu-fang on Oct. 1, according to our sister newspaper Want Daily.

After the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology modified the Sky Sword II air-to-air missile originally designed for Taiwan's F-CK-1 Ching-kuo fighter into a new version to be launched from naval warships, Lin suggested all RIM-72C Sea Chaparral missiles aboard the Republic of China Navy's six La Fayette-class frigates should be replaced. Lin then said that the defense ministry should then consider deploying missiles to Taiping.

Taiping, also called Itu Aba, is the largest island currently under the administration of Taiwan in the South China Sea. Although Taiwan was not part of the standoff between China and the Philippines over Scarborough Shoal in April 2012 or that between China and Vietnam over a Chinese oil rig deployed near the Paracel Islands in May, Lin suggested Taipei take a tougher stance in defending its territory in the South China Sea. He said that Taipei should not think of the territorial dispute in the South China Sea in the same way as the dispute over the Diaoyutai (Senkaku or Diaoyu) islands in the East China Sea since Taiping is under Taiwan's control.

Other legislators joined Lin to demand the government solidify the defense of Taiping. The island is currently manned by the ROC Coast Guard. This is not enough to defend it from a potential attack from Vietnam however, therefore the defense ministry should deploy more air defense missiles and weapons for anti-amphibious operations to the island, Lin said. At the same time, he suggested the government expand the naval port, airfield and other military facilities on the island.

Without aerial refueling aircraft, the Republic of China Air Force is unable to provide sufficient air support to the Taiping garrison. Vietnam said that it is capable of paralyzing the defense of the island in just 20 minutes. After that, it would take no more than an hour for the Vietnamese military to take control of the island.

Look, it is wantchinatimes, a source that is known to be reliable. Why are you posting something from there when yourself said "the article is ridiculous, more propaganda than reality"?

.
I would think such deployment has much more to do with the expansion of mainland China's naval presence in the region, than anything to do with Vietnam.

Also communist remember, except ours is more successful, usually, a smaller country due to population, should have way higher per capita especially in the development stage, see Sri Lanka, but you, well.

As to blood if anyone is firing the first shot it would not be us, reason is we can achieve what we want without firing, so why do it. Firing a shot means some backlash, now if it was something that we can't achieve except through war, maybe, but right now no.

Our coast guard gets more 3000+ tons ship per year, than most coast guards around the world will ever have.

So we won't shoot.

.
It's ridiculous because Vietnam navy is just a midget comparing to Taiwan's and Taiwan has a far more advanced military than Vietnam.they are not in the same league.

I would think such deployment has much more to do with the expansion of mainland China's naval presence in the region, than anything to do with Vietnam.

According to Taiwanese account, Vietnam had once surrounded the island with 300+ fishing boats, and it was the mainland navy that drove them away. The true intention of the standoff was unknown, but one thing is certain that over the territorial disputes in the South China Sea, PRC & RoC are more cooperative than adversarial.

I think Vietnam should be worried about this development, since Taiwan is militarizing the south China sea more and more. Moreover Vietnam still claims the Taiping islands as well. I think with Vietnam taking delivery of Diesel electric submarine from Russia will help Vietnam get an edge over Taiwans navy(since taiwan doesnt have any real submarine capability per say), though Taiwan has superior frigates/battle ships.

Also Taiwan(ROC) is the country that initiated/started with the 9 dash line which the communist just took over after they defeated the nastionalist and to this day their claim of China is even bigger than that of the communist(it includes mongolia and part of Siberia.lol) If anything Vietnam should be happy the ROC didnt prevail in China mainland, since had they prevailed then they would have taken control of all the islands in the south China sea by force longggg time ago from Vietnam and other ASEAN coutries, in fact there wouldnt even be a dispute today. So ironically its a good thing for Vietnam the communist won on the mainland.

ROC has made some big claim on the map, but from the action and the capability, they are by far weaker than PRC.

Well yes agree they are far weaker in action and capability than PRC. But that is because they are a small islands with just over 30 million people who are not even recognised by majority of countries in the world by the way. So of course they will try and maintain a lower profile. However if they had won the civil war, then im sure they would have been even more aggressive than the communist. Had the KMT being in power in the mainland, then im sure China will have been even much more bigger today(ther will have been no taiwan issue), they would have taken the senkakus back from Japan(since thye were a U.S ally and one of the major power/victors of the second world war, so would have taken the islands back), they would have certainly inavded/taken back mongolia(which they still claim by the way) and give the middle finger to the Soviets,They would never have given back 'south Tibet' after defeating India unlike the communist, they will have maintain control of all the islands in south china sea, which they were the first to claim even before other countries in asia gained independence etc.

In short ironically its a good thing the communist won, had they not, then the mailand will have been even more bigger and troubling.:agree: Nationalists are always more dangerous/patriotic than communists unlike most of us in the west think. But then again, they might have been more subsivient to the U.S(as a U.S ally), But hey who cares?:D:usflag:

If KMT was in power, today's China would become less than half the size of PRC.

First, they let Outer Mongolia to become independent by 1946. If CPC didn't succeed to overthrow these traitors, they would also let Xinjiang and Xizang to follow the suit.

KMT is a piece of sh1t, it represents China's humiliation in the past, and the Chinese people have made the rightful choice to overthrow these bastards.

I completely agree. Communists are cruel idealists. They would give up South Tibet after the victory, they would withdraw from Vietnam, etc. etc. It's a paradox that few normal humans would understand. Mongolia's independence was orchestrated by the Soviet Union. Nationalists are pretty straightforward and put national interests above and foremost. Nationalists are willing to be ally with anyone regardless of ideology or even offer concession if it's in national interest. Being ally with big powers is nothing to be ashamed of. But those communists would never understand. To them, I guess empty slogans of "world proletarians unite" is more important than national interests.

If not for the communists takeover of mainland China, Japan would have not been so successful after being arch nemesis of the U.S. etc, etc. The whole East Asia would have been totally different landscape. It's a cruel joke. But oh well, 60 years is very short time span in China's history, so lets just move on.

Also back to the topic, Vietnam stole couple of islands near Taiping Island during a storm back in 1970s or 80s, cannot remember the exact date! The soldiers went to Taiping Island then after the storm, the viets have stationed on those tiny islands already, lol. Vietnam now has most islands in South China Sea by stealing. This is why I believe Vietnam is the nastiest thorn in the whole East and Southeast Asia, far far worse than Japan. Japan is a model democracy today, while Vietnam is a thief that constantly yells, kicks around, whines, screams.

ahahahahahhaha.............that crack me up bro.:lol::rofl::rofl::rofl:
As one Vietnamese here said in one thread on here: 'Had Vietnam been as big and powerful as China, then Vietnam will basically have own/united the whole of southeast Asia under it'.
i think he is right.:agree::D
Thats why i admire/like Vietnam, They are tough and know how to use the little power they have to full effect.:D Reason why they subverted/rule Cambodia/laos and they almost even did same to Thailand if not for China pressuring them in the north to withdraw they would have conquered thailand as well. . kudos to vietnam. you are tough smart/guys,:enjoy:

To put in human perspective, vietnam as a person would be the toughest pound for pound fighter. China is like a six feet tall man only able to pick on an unarmed five foot tall boy.
