supersonic missiles can still be shot down by point defenses on airbases and ships. I also highly, highly doubt that Taiwan has a 1500 km range supersonic missile like they claimed.

Russian P-700 Granit is supersonic, one of the largest and highest range missiles in the world, and still only has range of 700 km. The range decreases if it flies low too, to 500 km. Taiwan has never shown evidence of aerospace capability.

I agree with all your points. I think the missile could be a combination of sub sonic supersonic profile which can be even more lethal. Subsonic terrain hugging missiles are difficult to track and once they reach close to the target they switch to supersonic mode giving much lesser time for defendant to defend.

Theoretically even hypersonic ballistic missiles can be intercepted but each defence systems has its vulnerabilities. So defence system do not give hundred percent protection. A prime example is attack of KSA's refinery attack few months earlier. Despite having one of the best anti air system, the attackers fooled it.
