The King Abdullah city, also known as KAEC, was launched a decade ago as part of a $30bn project to build six cities to diversify the oil-dependent economy, attract foreign investment, create 1.3m jobs and add $150bn to gross domestic product. But only one of the six made it off the drawing board, King Abdullah city, which today has a population of just 7,000 people set against a target of 2m by 2035.

It costed $5 billion.. and it was a good lesson for cheap..

Here we are talking about Foxconn investing $9 billion on its own to build a plant in Neom and this is only one company..the difference is huge..

.
Fantastic news for our brothers and sisters in Saudi Arabia. The country could easily become a bigger global manufacturing hub than it is already. Strategic location between 3 major continents, endless pockets of money, endless amount of natural resources (oil, gas), huge mineral wealth, huge potential for alternative energy sources, access to cheap labour from across the world and an educated local population which is also growing. Only politics can destroy this potential as I see it.

What ride? It was a success and lead to the establishment of the highest-ranked university in the Muslim world, KAUST. I know, as my father has been employed there.

King Abdullah Port, the second fastest growing port in the world, several successful industrial factories having been built, a entire industrial valley and much more as well. Sounds like a success to me.

I wish that Pakistan would be taken for such a ride as well by the "goras" as you claim.

Why iPhone Assembler Foxconn Might Build A $9 Billion Factory In Saudi Arabia

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract assembler of consumer electronics, is in talks with Saudi officials about the prospect of opening a $9 billion factory in the Middle Eastern nation that wants to diversify its economy away from oil, the Wall Street Journal reported this week.

The factory will make semiconductor chips, electric vehicle components and other electronics in Neom, a city near the Red Sea coast where Saudi officials are developing into a tech hub, according to the Journal.

The Taiwanese assembler of iPhones, founded by Taiwanese billionaire Terry Gou, did not answer questions about the Saudi Arabia plant. Foxconn operates 12 China plants across nine cities. Other operations are in Europe, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

“One of the unique advantages for Foxconn of having a factory in Saudi Arabia is that it can be closer to the Middle East market to tap local demand while diluting the geopolitical risks by avoiding tariff barriers to make prices more competitive,” says Tu Chia-wei, an industry analyst with the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute in Taipei.

China and the United States have been embroiled in a trade dispute since 2018. Foxconn has been trying to spread its operations beyond China in part to avoid trade dispute fallout. Foxconn is set to invest NT$257 billion (about $9 billion) in building plants in Saudi Arabia, says Tu.

Saudi officials probably met with Foxconn because they plan to diversify the energy-intensive economy away from oil, said Yang Wang, a senior analyst at Counterpoint. The government intends to reshape Saudi Arabia into an industrial powerhouse in eight years, per its Vision 2030 plan. “One of the ways to realize the tech goals of Saudi Vision 2030 will be to embed the country in the global tech supply chain,” he says.

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign public investment fund, Public Investment Fund, will probably bankroll projects that are part of Vision 2030, Wang says. He notes that the fund created a $6.4 billion investment proposal in February for future technology and last year invested $1 billion in Lucid Motors, an electric car maker that plans to open its first manufacturing plant outside the U.S. in Saudi Arabia.

The company “could be doing a bit of subsidy shopping here and trying to get the best financial incentives” from Saudi Arabia or the nearby United Arab Emirates, Wang adds.

If Foxconn ends up building such a factory in Saudi Arabia it will have an enormously positive impact and help several key strategic fields in Saudi Arabia to develop further. After all Foxconn is the world’s greatest electronics manufacturing firm.

I wish that we would see something similar in Pakistan one day. Unfortunately it is not realistic currently.:(

That car looks really nice. How big is the ownership stake of Saudi Arabia in Lucid Motors? Did the state not own stakes in Tesla until recently as well?

I found this on Wikipedia:

Saudi Arabia

On, 27 April 2022, Government of Saudi Arabia announced to purchase a minimum of 50,000 electric vehicles and up to 100,000 electric vehicles from Lucid Motors over a ten-year period.[60] The Saudi government said the decision was in line with efforts to make its fleet more environmentally friendly and diversify the national economy away from oil. Lucid was selected, the government said, because the company is setting up a full production factory in Saudi Arabia—its first international manufacturing plant, which is aiming to produce 150,000 cars annually.[61]

Incredible.

Saudi Arabia is developing on all fronts. So much potential and so many opportunities. All helped by a knowledgeable, ambitious and competent elite with real visions that runs the country.

People will say that most countries could do something similar given how many blessings Saudi Arabia has been given by God but plenty of resource rich (if not most) countries are failed countries in comparison.

If the absolute mess that is Pakistan is unsavable, our family could always return to Saudi Arabia, InshAllah.

Actually it exists. Functioning airport and a lot of other stuff has been built already. Tourists are already coming as well. A Google search search away.
It's a derelict empty piece of desert. Even after decades it is still a wasteland with no development whatsoever. Except maybe some cushy government jobs for Saudi citizens and an opportunity to boss around laborers from "miskeen" poor South Asian countries. Even on harmain railway it is an empty desolate train station.

A good looking one. But still empty, derelict, remote and desolate.

With all due respect you are obviously engaged in silly trolling now hence the absurd nonsense.

Fact of the matter is that we are light years behind Saudi Arabia on almost every front as a country hence why millions of our countrymen have been migrating there for decades. Even to this day the by far largest Pakistani diaspora is based in Saudi Arabia. On the other hand Saudi Arabians in Pakistan can be counted on 1 hand.

Anyway this news is very positive so no need to go off-topic here.
