BEIJING (Reuters) - Taiwan president-elect Tsai Ing-wen on Saturday called for freedom of navigation in the disputed South China Sea and for a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

She also said Taiwan will continue to strengthen the island's ties with Japan.

China claims almost all the disputed South China Sea, where it has built artificial islands that extend its reach. Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines have competing claims in the sea, through which $5 trillion of trade passes annually.

Congratulations Madam president Tsai Ing-wen :enjoy:

. . . .
:coffee: Not very a bright lady. She has hardly warm her chair and she is making silly statement without thinking.

Those are not even the top priorities at this moment.

:( I dread to think of Taiwan's future at this point.

She has so much to learn. Compare her to South Korean President Park, she is simply nowhere at this point.

What a pity? IMO Many Taiwanese may be thinking or opts to migrate.

Congratulations Madam president Tsai Ing-wen :enjoy:

 Are you congratulating her because you think the uniformed pirates currently operating your patrol boats can now shoot at more Taiwanese Fishing Boats and you think this Madam President will be too weak to respond.

Never expect Taiwan people to protect the national interest.
Luckily,we can easily handle this, and we are buliding 3 big airports in our NEW islands, afterall,POWER is the only feasible way.

. . . .
Not a surprise, considering her father is a Japanese.
Japanese loyalty will always be with Japan no matter where they are. Just like Lee Teng hui.
Just like Alfredo Fujimori of Peru.

.
Not surprising. Taiwan is defacto independent. They just dare not to say it straight out. Their words are just evasive and pretentious. Their actions show their interests are only within taiwan island and their alliance with US and Japan. They won't hesitate to sacrifice Chinese interests to please Japan and US.

congrat Ms Tsai. she will lead Taiwan into a new world. in 100 years, everybody will think Taiwan is a normal country like Vietnam. China? just a distant forgotten memory. well done.

You should also suggest Taiwanese to adopt a new language than Chinese, just like what Vietnamese did to become a normal country.

Their claim is BS. They don't give a damn about SCS.

Never expect Taiwan people to protect the national interest.

These 3 air strips should be finish ASAP. Then move on to Scarborough to finish the strategic layout.

What is pathetic is that the nationalist party was a loser to Japan invaders in WWII. They are still a loser today to the Japanese proxy in Taiwan. No wonder they lost China.

congratulations Taiwan. The Taiwanese have sent a strong message to China with this summary rejection of incumbent china fan boys. I hope China will take this to heart and amend its transgressions and breaches in Hong Kong.

.
I watched some of her speeches, and her nickname of "Hollow Stem Spinach“ was not for no reason. Time to excise some economical pressure on Taiwan, the free ride is over. China needs to learn from the superpower, "you are either with us, or you are against us".
