Featured Taiwan loses two F-5E fighter jets in apparent collision

Taiwan has historically been Japanese. Aboriginal Taiwanese spoke Okinawan language. South Sakhalin is historically Ainu. Japan took back Taiwan and South Sakhalin from China and Russia after war with China and Russia but lost them again because WW2. As for Germans, they still need to take back Austria to reunify completely.

Well, China is taking back Taiwan by force and there is no much Japan can do about it other than lip service. Japanese public won't approve shedding Japanese blood to fight China in Taiwan strait.

It will not be hard for the Japan government to get the backing of the public to dispatch the JSDF to act together with the US in the event of a Taiwan emergency.

China should be content with what it currently has...

Japan risks losing Okinawa to China in the event of war with China in Taiwan strait. Japan will not fight. Japan will play it safe. Okinawa is far from Japanese mainland and difficult to defend. The last time Japan fought in WW2, Japan lost South Sakhalin, Kurils, Korea, Taiwan, most of China, Southeast Asia. China uses Urumqi airbase to strike Taiwan strait. Japan does not have the range to strike Urumqi airbase.

Well, China has been eyeing Okinawa. If Japan fights China in Taiwan strait, Japan falls into China's trap and ends up losing Okinawa to China. India lost Aksai Chin to China in 1962. Japan can lose Okinawa to China if Japan fights China in Taiwan strait.

Your need to transition to a might makes right angle de facto concedes that the PRC is not in the right to initiate force unification of Taiwan. When PRC force build up is detected along with other side with imminant signs of the invasion attempt to occur within weeks, the diplomatic channels will run into high gear and we'll cross that bridge. Others can place their bets.

The day you see massive build up of air power at Urumqi air base is the day you know invasion is near. Taiwan do not have range to strike Urumqi air base without aerial refueling tankers and air launched cruise missiles. Urumqi air base can strike Taiwan. It's basically I can punch you but you can't punch me.

I've seen that old H-6 promo already.

Speaking in terms of PRC dream than basis if reality. Protecting Taiwan is a matter for Taiwan, the US, and Japan.
Japan? A country that has no independent sovereignty claims to protect Taiwan?
You are just a running dog of the US. And the Yankees don't even need to feed you a piece of bone.
You really have a big mouth.

Ah yes, the classic "you have no say" that brings no substance.

The region does not welcome the PRC using force on Taiwan. Taiwan doesn't want to be part of PRC.

PRC's threat of force is the cause of tension in the region.

So too is the 9 dash line. Too much strategic posture is lost if the PRC gets the 9 dash line and Taiwan. China is already the biggest by far in the region so China should respect security concern of neighboring countries if China wanted to reduce tensions.
I wait for US to declare, they don't accept one China policy and recognize taiwan independent. Then I will trust your words. :enjoy:
Yes we get it you like Xi Jing Ping and that's final , however that's an opinion and most people hate Xi Jing Ping and Chinese influence

All you guys can do it threaten Taiwan that's all
And yet Taiwan dare not declare independence and so as US dare not recognize taiwan as country..

To be truly independent, you need to get a seat in UN in order to qualify as country. This will allow you to have foreign diplomacy. Taiwan has zero.

Taiwan loses two fighter jets in apparent collision
Taiwanese pilot killed and another missing in the ageing fleet’s third crash over the past six months.

A Taiwanese air force pilot has been killed and another is missing after their fighter jets disappeared in a suspected mid-air collision off the island’s southern coast, officials said.

The crash on Monday was the third such incident in the past half-year, at a time when the island’s armed forces are having to intercept Chinese aircraft on an almost daily basis.

The two F-5E jets disappeared from radar at about 3 pm (07:00 GMT) some 2.6km (1.6 miles) off the coast of rural southern Pingtung County, the National Rescue Command Centre said.

It added that the fighters, each with one pilot on board, crashed into the sea off the island’s southeastern coast after they apparently collided in midair during a training mission.

One of the pilots was found unconscious in the sea but could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Rescuers were still searching for the remaining pilot.

Taiwan’s defence ministry said it was working on a statement, and provided no other immediate comment. The official Central News Agency said the air force had now grounded the F-5 fleet that operates from the Chihhang airbase.

Recent accidents
Another F-5 crashed in October, killing the pilot. The following month a much more modern F-16 crashed off Taiwan’s east coast, whose pilot also died.

In January last year, Taiwan’s top military official was among eight people killed when a helicopter carrying them to visit soldiers crashed in a mountainous area near the capital Taipei.

While Taiwan’s air force is well trained and equipped, mostly with US-made equipment, it is dwarfed by China’s.
Beijing views the democratic island as its own territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring it under Chinese control.

Under President Xi Jinping, China has become markedly more hostile towards Taiwan and last year Chinese jets made a record 380 incursions into its defence zone, with some analysts warning that tensions between the two sides are at their highest since the mid-1990s.

The incursions force outgunned Taiwan to regularly scramble their own jets and keep pilots on a round-the-clock war footing that takes its toll on ageing aircraft and those flying them.

The US-built F-5E is an older generation fighter with a design that dates back to the 1960s. It first entered service in Taiwan in the late 1970s and has been mostly been retired from front-line activities, though some are still used for training and as back-up for the main fleet.

were the pilots indian?...
