A fight between the ROC Armed Forces and the PLA would be utterly destructive. We even estimate that to effectively take Taiwan (and control) would require an invasion force of 500,000. The island is so well defended and protected that it would be a costly military expedition for the PLA, which would expose her military regions to deficiency.

Tacitly, it would be best for a peaceful reunion. An armed conflict would be too costly and it may be used as a Litmus Test for other regional powers to intervene , which I think would be to the detriment of China' interests.

You should learn how the PLA liberated the Hainan island.

Taiwan's getting 4 ex-USN OPH-class frigates to replace their existing Knox-class boats:

The Naval Vessel Transfer Act of 2013 — signed by President Obama in December — approves the sale of up to four frigates to Taiwan.

Along with Gary, the act identified USS Taylor (FFG-50), USS Gary (FFG-51), USS Carr (FFG-52) and USS Elrod (FFG-55) as the ships approved for sale to Taiwan.

@Technogaianist --- from the grapevine , i hear that in the upcoming months, the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force's Western Army will conduct training operations and training exercises with the Republic of China Army (Taiwan).
