Background
Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri (Age 63) is a Pakistani politician and Islamic scholar of Sufism and son of the great spiritualist and intellectual of his time Shaykh Dr Farida’d Din al Qadri. He is a Sunni Hanfi and is from Barelvi school of thought. He was also a professor of international constitutional law at the University of the Punjab. Qadri is also the founding chairman of Minhaj ul Quran International and Pakistan Awami Tehrik. He has written many books on Islam, hadith and spiritualism Education. He was the second one(after Sarfaraz Ahmed Naeemi) to write Fatwa on terrorism (first one to write detailed fatwa of 600 page accepted by international community and Al azhar university).
Education
He started his religious education under his father , his formal education was initiated in Madina at the age of 12, in Madrasa al-‘Ulum ash-Shar‘iyya, which was situated in the blessed house of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the first residence of the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) after his migration. He received a First Class Honours Degree from the University of the Punjab in 1970, he had also completed his Classical Islamic Studies. He earned his MA in Islamic Studies in 1972 with the University of the Punjab Gold Medal, achieved his LLB in 1974 and began to practise as a lawyer in the district courts of Jhang. He in 1978 joined the University of the Punjab as a lecturer in law and then gained his PhD in Islamic Law.
Agenda
1) Removal of government and Assembly should be dissolved
2) Formation of National democratic interim government with consensus of all political and no political stake holders and new election will be conducted after electoral reforms and this government will provide:
1-Every homeless will be given a home
2-Every person would be given employment or employment allowance
3-Subsidies on basic utilities
4-All taxes will be eliminated from the gas, water and electricity bills for lower middle class
5-Official insurance scheme would be introduced and free medical treatment for poor.
6-Educational reform
7-Fifty million acres Gov owned cultivable land would be distributed among the poor.
8-Sectarianism, terrorism and extremism will be eliminated. Peace training centres will be opened. Syllabi of religious seminaries would be revised and amended. Nobody will be allowed to say Kafir to each other and an Islamic-Secular state with religious tolerance
9-Women empowerment
10-Disparity in the pay structures of all senior and junior public and private sector employees will be minimized to possible extent
The above agenda will be financed by removal of tax concessions to elite class, decreasing corruptions, Arrangements with Swiss bank, Gold and coal mining, exploration of oil and gas and 50 other sources which he haven’t mentioned in speech
Methodology
Stage 1: He will be staging a sit In Islamabad near Red zone and announcing Deadline
Stage 2: He will go for blocking all important highways and trade routes including karakoram highway, with the help of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen
Stage 3: He will announce to enter in Red zone peacefully and stage a sit on constitution avenue
After stage 3 whole governing system will become paralyze and Gov will resign or is forced by army to resign. In case of clash with police, army will overtake.He might be using PTI as a Tool
Supporters
Tahir ul Qadri is backed by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen PMLQ SUNNI ITEHAD APML(Musharaf) AML and to some extent PTI. He has a strong support of Barelvis in Rural areas and many Barelvis of Urban areas and is also supported by some Shias and Christians. MQM might be the last party to jump on wagon. All media channels are against him except ARY and SAMMA
Opposition
He is opposed by PMLN PPP Jamat e islami ANP PkMAP JUI. He is also opposed by many Deobandis and Ahl e Hadith
Organisation and management
PAT works under the command of TUQ and so far is able manage gatherings effectively. Most people in his crowd are religious followers of TUQ and are very obedient to him a.d are willing to do anything on his order
Financed
Minhaj ul Quran is financed by the members of the organisation from all over the world including India .PAT is also financed by the members of PAT both organisations are separately financed
Criticism and TUQ answers
TUQ is mainly criticised for his religious views. He is criticised for speaking against blasphemy law for non Muslims, for not raising voice against Jews and for observing spiritualism
According to TUQ blasphemy laws are not applicable on non Muslims in Hannfi School but are applicable in other schools of thought, and Hannfi school of thought is widely practiced in Pakistan and he is not against Judaism but is against state terrorism of Israel. He is also said as non follower of constitution of Pakistan.
Last time when he staged a sit he was criticized for sitting inside a heated bullet proof bunker and not caring about his followers but this time he is not using any bunker and is claimed to live in same conditions as his followers. According to him he is the follower of constitution of Pakistan and all his demand are according to constitution
