Some times +ve ratings are given to the most ridiculous posts. I once saw a post which read "Meri marzi" (yeah that's it!! Just 2 words Lolz) marked positive by none other than a very very senior mod of the forum.
I think we should start reporting the positive ratings too. Lol
Thanks for bringing this thread to my attention @PARIKRAMA, not sure if I will be able to contribute here, because I like the way titles are handed out now, just that an ocassional revision is required.
I don't want to burden our overburdened mods.

Happy with the current system about number of posts to become senior member which will help a junior or new member to get use to of PDF as well as will enhance the capability for quality posting and debates.
Rest about +ratings, I would like to say that the same may be counted as to give seniority tag after continue serviliance or putting under radar for quality and minimum about 8 to 10 +ratings in start to become senior member and excess to the seniors cafe incase of less than 2000 posts etc. Indeed, felt as hard in start to cater 8 to 10 +ratings but in the mean time poster will be polished well. I am still junior but the current system helped me to boost my knowledge and improved the skills as well which resulted my interest for more quality posting that as much as I can.
+ ratings should not be relied alone to claim titles at all, a total different subject and I think the same is or could be in practice.
While relying upon only positive ratings and thanks to claim a title, would ultimately result in lobbying IMO, so better not to attempt which will back fire.
Selection for title is indeed seems to be carried out through a proper process and so also there would be an impartial jury comprising of capable and eligible members so best to carry on the same though policy of such committee or jury shouldn't be disclosed at all.
However, as @WAJsal boss pointed out about some seniors use to troll and do not deserve the title, is the area which should be addressed first like -ratings or by way of demotion incase of any improper practice by them.
Indeed being a senior or elite member is a title like TT etc in itself which clearly indicates the quality posting so no quality means no seniority or demotion from elite stage to bottom as per given negatives for no sign of improvements but continue troll etc.
Quality less posting or troll by any senior or elite member should be considered for evaluation of an area first, incase if any further improvements at PDF are required/needed.
Rest about title claim, the jury and administration knows better and indeed should not be based upon only +ratings and thanks alone.
Seniority could be given to the poster based upon +ratings and thanks received or would disqualifie for a specific time due to -ratings.

@PARIKRAMA I kindly do not agree with the "Thanks" part of the rating system. Again an fun post will gain a lots of "likes" and so will troll posts.
Differentiating likes based on sections will be an painful coding process with lots of checks and balances.
The ways to differentiate "good" senior members from the "rest' , I believe should be based on time basis, number of times one is banned, negative ratings etc. I guess it takes 2000 posts for an Senior members. Why not make it 2 years? It really adds quality to the forum. One who have survived for 2 years without bans alone can proceed to the next stage.
I have seen lots of members after me becoming elites after posting 8000 posts with complete troll behaviour. Just make time frame for different levels of Titles. And we need to have more Titles for Naturally progressing members through time.

The titles based on post count are essentially rewarding people for spouting out the most BS and not for making quality posts. Remove them, and the forum will have a culture change.

Do that, in fact i have reversed many such ratings and talked to the members giving them. Majority of the ratings are deserved, PARIKARMA makes good posts and gets rated and deservingly so-a good example.Seconded!!!

Nothing is a secret hereHow about a democratic vote. All Members who have certain number of posts get to vote titles for other members. Secret ballot.
.We need to make Senior Member and Elite Member a respectable title, and give it to respectable members-make it a title like TT.

everybody here knows senior and elite are just the words used to show how long the member has been here(and not its English meaning).. just like the ranks of General/Wing Commander... it means nothing.. just a bit of fun..
may be the senior cafe should be limited to only rank holders(like TT/Pro)... I very much doubt it will improve the quality of conversation as some rank holders are pathetic trolls... but we wont know if we don't try.

Decreasing the font size of avatar name + title of all members other than Mod/Admin/TT/Prof is the easiest way for an outsider to pinpoint quality posters
Certain forums give the title holders the option of bigger avatar, signature gif etc. We had the matrix gif under the avatar etc. However reducing the font of 90% of the members is the easiest thing to do and it keeps the forum sober

Seriously, i think reducing font size is gonna strain your eyes, and if you happen to be an ophthalmologist then i know why you suggested this idea. Ouch!
If you're serious about segregating badge holders then i suggest medals under the usernames like we have in the forces.
