Hafeez pays due respect to Tigers
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez warned his side that their aspiration to win the title would be jeopardised in case of any mistakes in the next matches.
Pakistan revived their hopes of playing in the next phase of the mega event beating Australia in a nail-bitter following the shocking drubbing to India in the tournament opener. “The picture is very clear. Boys know it very well that they’ve no chance of making any mistake. We’re ready for it and looking forward to tomorrow’s game. I think in the last match they boys showed good performance. We pulled up in a very difficult situation,” he said ahead of the clash against Bangladesh.
The Pakistan skipper said that they’re expecting to play the final winning all the next matches of the tournament though it’ll be a tough task.
“As a team, we’ve to win each and every game to go into the final. We need to win one game at a time. We’re hopeful about it,” the all-rounder said.
“Around the world, all Pakistani and our fans expect us to do that. We set our target to play not only the semi-final but also win the trophy.”
Hafeez paid a good respect to Bangladesh despite the hosts have been in a substandard form at their home den. “We respect Bangladesh as opponent. We’ll try to play our best game and win the match,” Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez yesterday.
According to Hafeez any team can stand up with good performance on a given day in Twenty20 cricket which is full of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Australian coach Darren Lehmann said that his team would have to deal with another spin test in order to restore some pride when they will take India who confirmed their semi-final berth with a match to go.
The Aussies on the other hand, made an early exit to the World Twenty20 following their six-wicket loss to West Indies in a gripping and emotional match.
West Indian players celebrate wildly following their victory after the built-up of the match got furious over the past incident as James Faulkner came up with a comment that he doesn’t particularly like the West Indies players.
West Indies skipper Darren Sammy after the match, pointed out the Faulkner’s exchange of word as a cheap talk. Rather the match between Australia and India, there was attention on the exchange of word between Australia and West Indies. However Aussie coach Darren Lehmann called the exchange of words “banter.”
“From my point of view, James has probably got to choose his words a little bit better but that’s just part and parcel of the banter of the game, isn’t it?” Lehmann said. “We’re in the entertainment business and if I could dance like Chris Gayle I’d be dancing every night of the week.
Lehmann however said they got a quite vast knowledge about the Indian as they played a seven-match ODI series, a few months ago.
“We’re lucky enough to have played some decent one-day cricket against India in India. They know us pretty well and we know them very well. So it’s going to be a good chance for our batters and bowlers to put a complete performance.”
When Lehmann’s attention was drawn to his batsmen’s frailties against spin, he said, “It’s not a weakness. The spinners did not get us, we got ourselves out. We should have won both those games.”
India now could have some experiment against Australia after their semi-final is confirmed. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin rated Australia as a quality and expected a tough fight.

টি-টোয়েন্টিতে পাকিস্তানের সাথে ছয় বারের দেখায় বাংলাদেশের কোন জয় নেই। গত বিশ্বকাপে পাকিস্তানের বিপক্ষে আজমল-হাফিজ-গুলদের বোলিয়ের সামনে সাকিবের দুর্দান্ত ইনিংস কিছুটা আশা জাগানো এবং অনুপ্রেরণার হতে পারে। তবে ম্যাচের আগে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে অধিনায়ক মুশফিক নিজে না এসে পাঠালেন দলের সেরা খেলোয়াড় সাকিব আল হাসানকে।
সাকিব সংবাদ সম্মেলনে প্রথমেই জানালেন হয়তো এখন আর আমাদের বাড়তি চাপ নেই। বাস্তবতা আমরা সেমিফাইনাল থেকে বেশ খানিকটা দূরে সরে গেছি। তবে খেয়াল করলে দেখবেন আমাদের মূল লক্ষ্য ছিল চুড়ান্তপর্বে কোয়ালিফাই করা। সেটা আমরা করেছি। এখন আমাদের লক্ষ একটা বড় দলকে হারানো, তবে দুইটা হলেও খারাপ হবে না।
এখন প্রেসার নেই, সুযোগ এসেছে প্রেসার মুক্ত থেকে মাঠে নিজেদের সেরাটা দেওয়া। নিজের পারফরম্যান্স নিয়ে বলেন, বোলিং বেশ ভালই হচ্ছে। প্রথম তিন ম্যাচ রান করতে পারলেও শেষ দুই ম্যাচে মাত্র তিন বল খেলেছি। উইকেট দিয়ে আসছি। দলের মধ্যে কোন ব্যক্তিগত সমস্যা আছে কিনা আমার জানা নেই।
আমাদের আসলে একটা মোমেন্ট টার্ম দরকার। সবাই অনেক চেষ্টা করছে শুধু রেজাল্ট পাচ্ছে না। সুযোগ কাজে লাগাতে হবে। চট্টগ্রামে শিশিরের কারণে বোলিং করতে সমস্যা হয়েছিল। তবে মিরপুরে কিন্তু আমাদের পরিচিত উইকেট। ব্যাটিং অর্ডারে আমি আর মুশফিক ভাই একটু নিচে খেলছি কারণ মিডল অর্ডার ভাল ক্লিক করছে না। শেষ দুই বছর আমি তিন নাম্বারে খেলেছি। পরের ব্যাটসম্যান বা টপ অর্ডারের কেউ ক্লিক করছে না।
টিমের সবার কি পরিকল্পনা বা ড্রেসিংরুমের পরিবেশ বিষয়ে সাকিব বলেন, সবাই ভাল খেলতে চাই। সবাই যার যার কাজ সম্পর্কে অবগত। ভাল খেললে দলের জন্য যেমনি ভাল, তেমনি নিজের জন্যও ভাল। দলের সবাই সেরা ক্রিকেট খেলতে চাইছে। যেকোন সময় হয়তো কাজেও লেগে যেতে পারে।
পাকিস্তানের স্পিন অ্যাটাক অনেক শক্তিশালী। লাস্ট কয়টা ম্যাচে আমরা ওদের বিপক্ষে ভাল খেলেছি। এশিয়া কাপে সবাই বেশ ভাল রান করেছে। আমাদের ব্যাটসম্যানরা ওদের বোলারদের সব সময় ভাল খেলে। ওদের দলে বেশ কিছু ম্যাচ উইনার রয়েছে। ম্যাচের ভাগ্য বদলাতে পারে যেকোন সময়। আমাদের দলীয় পারফরম্যান্স কাজে লাগাতে হবে। টিম সিলেকশন বিষয়ে ক্যাপটেন, কোচ, টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টই ভাল বলতে পারবে।
আমাদের নিজেদের খেলার উন্নতি করতে হবে। পিচ নিয়ে কোন কমপ্লেন করে লাভ নেই। সব দলই ভাল খেলে, সবাই জিততে এসেছে। আমাদের সেই কথা মাথায় রেখে খেলতে হবে।

- মিরপুর শেরে বাংলা স্টেডিয়াম থেকে: আগের ম্যাচে শক্তিশালী অস্ট্রেলিয়াকে হারিয়ে বেশ ফুরফুরে মেজাজে রয়েছে পাকিস্তান। এখনও সেমিফাইনাল খেলা চূড়ান্ত হয়নি। তবে অপেক্ষাকৃত দুর্বল বাংলাদেশের সাথে খেলা বলেই হয়তো নিজেদেরকে বেশ নির্ভার রাখতে পারছে মোহাম্মদ হাফিজ বাহিনী। সদ্য সমাপ্ত এশিয়া কাপে বাংলাদেশ দলের বিশাল রানের টার্গেটকে মামুলি বানিয়ে জয় ছিনিয়ে আনা হয়তো বাড়তি প্রেরোণা হতে পারে।
আর বাংলাদেশ দলের এখন আর হারানো কিছু নেই তবে টাইগাররা যে কোন সময় জ্বলে উঠতে পারে এমনটা জানা সবার। স্বাগতিকদের বিপক্ষে মাঠে নামার আগের দিন পাকিস্তানি অধিনায়ক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে টুর্নামেন্টের সব ম্যাচকেই সমান গুরুত্ব দিতে চাইলেন। হাফিজ বলেন, প্রথম ম্যাচ ভারতের সাথে হেরে কিছুটা চাপে পড়েছিল তার দল। তবে গত ম্যাচে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার সাথে দারুণ কামব্যাক ভাল কিছুরই ইঙ্গিত করছে।
বাংলাদেশের সাথে রোববারের ম্যাচে খুবই গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে পাকিস্তান। কারণে এই গ্রুপ থেকে ইতিমধ্যে ভারত সেমিফাইনাল নিশ্চিত করেছে। পাকিস্তানের জয়ের কোন বিকল্প নেই। নেট রানরেট বিষয়ে তাদেও কোন মাথাব্যাথা নেই। ম্যাচ বাই ম্যাচ জিততে হবে। জয় ছাড়া ভাববার সুযোগও নেই হাফিজের। পয়েন্টে সবারই সুযোগ আছে। তাছাড়া বাংলাদেশের দিন যেকোন দলই হারতে পারে। কঠিন সমীকরণে না গিয়ে জয়ের উপরেই বেশী গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে হাফিজ।
এখান থেকে ফাইনাল পর্যন্ত সব ম্যাচেই জয় প্রয়োজন। অন্য দলের লেগ স্পিনারা ভাল করছে। তবে আফ্রিদির উপর পূর্ণ আস্থা রয়েছে। সে যেকোন দিন ম্যাচের ভাগ্য পরিবর্তন করতে পারে। স্বাগতিক বাংলাদেশ প্রসঙ্গে বলেন, এটা ওদের চেনা কন্ডিশন। আমরা ভাল খেললে যেকোন কন্ডিশনে জয় সম্ভব। আমরা শেষ কয়দিন কঠোর অনুশীলন করছি। সবাই নিজের সেরাটা দিতে প্রস্তুত।
অধিনায়ক নিজে এবং আহম্মেদ শেহজাদ ছাড়াও বেশ কয়েকজন খেলোয়াড় রানে নেই এমটি জানতে চাইলে হাফিজ বলেন, সবার নিজের দুর্বলতা এবং করণীয় ঠিক করছে। রানে হয়তো নেই তবে ভাল খেলার জন্য চেষ্টা করছি। কোন একদিন হয়তো রানও করে ফেলব। সব কিছুর মূলে ভাল খেলা এবং রেজাল্ট বের করে আনতে হবে।

Shakib’s call to bring back momentum
Shakib Al Hasan emphasized on to bring back the momentum in order to arrest the recurring failure which haunted Bangladesh’s progress so badly that a wholesale change was mulled.
According to Shakib, Twenty20 cricket is all about the momentum and when any team losses the momentum, they fall in the spiral of failure, in which currently the Bangladesh go on. “Momentum is important in Twenty20 cricket.. tough to play good cricket when momentum is not there. So for us, it is important to bring back the momentum right at the moment,” said Shakib.
Bangladesh lost three matches in a row, including a shocking defeat to ICC Associates Hong Kong. While losing to Hong Kong was a tough pill to swallow, the manner of defeat at the hands of West Indies and India raised a question of their commitment.
“We could not play our best cricket in the last two matches. But still we have two matches left. I don’t think we expected to ride into the semi-final. What we aimed was to play good cricket and win one or two matches. So still we have the chance to win at least one match. If we can win at least a match, I think it would be a good tournament for us,” Shakib opined.
“Everyone is working hard and knows his role in the side. Hopefully the hard work will pay off at some point of the tournament.”
A wholesale change to the squad including the coaching stuffs also was on the cards if the BCB president’s indication is taken to consideration.
“The board can tell about it well but we are really disappointed with our performance. Bowling so far has been good but batting and fielding were not up to the mark. I still believe in the last two matches, we can show some fighting spirit at least.”
Shakib, the premier all-rounder of the world cricket, had reservation to accept that Bangladesh have been going through a toughest time in its cricket history since 2011 World Cup.
“I don’t think it’s the toughest period. In 2011 World Cup, we had a target to beat one or two big sides and we did that. Here in this tournament we had a goal to qualify in the Super 10 stage and we did that. Now if we can beat one side then it would be a good tournament for us,” he thought.
“What actually hurt us and the people that we lost so badly and we are not consistent. But we should remember that we are playing against the World champions and they would not leave an inch for you.”
“I think there is little expectation on us now and we are now free from any kind of pressure. When pressure is minimal, we are used to play good brand of cricket.”

Bangladesh aim to restore pride, showing some fighting instinct in its last two matches against Pakistan and Australia after being out of the ICC Twenty20 virtually. Mathematically still there is some chance for the hosts, but it is so complicated that hardly anyone gives it a shot. They first would have to defeat Pakistan and Australia and then expect the Pakistan to beat West Indies. If everything goes in Bangladesh’s direction luckily, run rate factor would come to the fore because three teams will have four points. But run rate factor still could haunt Bangladesh unless they win the two matches by big margin. It was such a tough mathematical calculation and given the team’s dire state and recurring failure, Bangladesh accepted its early exit.
They will take on Pakistan first today in its bid to show the fighting spirit, the thing that eluded them since their shocking loss to Hong Kong in the first round. But when the team is Pakistan, Bangladesh could feel a psychological bar. Pakistan remained the only team who they never beat in any format since 1999.
Pakistan indeed are the only one team also who makes the cut in last four in its every outing in the ICC World Twenty20. Despite the losses to archrivals India in the opening match, it still remains the favourite to win the trophy. So a mountainous task is ahead of Bangladesh if they really want to put up some fight. But equally it is true that Pakistan are the most unpredictable team. They showed some of their unpredictability in this tournament also. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan however relies on the uncertainty of Twenty20 cricket to have a turnaround.
“We are at the moment down in mentally and the confidence is low but as far as Twenty20 cricket is concerned, anybody can have the chance. That’s the beauty of the Twenty20 cricket,” said Shakib ahead of Bangladesh’s match against Pakistan yesterday.
“Mathematically still we have the chance but I don’t think we will move into the semi-final by beating two mighty teams in a row,” a realistic Shakib said.
According to Shakib, Pakistan would be tough team to beat as the Pakistan have a versatile bowling attack.
Despite Bangladesh’s miserable performance, Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez did not take anything guaranteed.
“No team is easy in this format. We’ve to pay the respect and play our best cricket if we want to beat them.”

Mathematically still there is some chance for the hosts, but it is so complicated that hardly anyone gives it a shot. They first would have to defeat Pakistan and Australia and then expect the Pakistan to beat West Indies. If everything goes in Bangladesh’s direction luckily, run rate factor would come to the fore because three teams will have four points. But run rate factor still could haunt Bangladesh unless they win the two matches by big margin. It was such a tough mathematical calculation and given the team’s dire state and recurring failure, Bangladesh accepted its early exit.
They will take on Pakistan first today in its bid to show the fighting spirit, the thing that eluded them since their shocking loss to Hong Kong in the first round. But when the team is Pakistan, Bangladesh could feel a psychological bar. Pakistan remained the only team who they never beat in any format since 1999.
Pakistan indeed are the only one team also who makes the cut in last four in its every outing in the ICC World Twenty20.
