More information about the T-70 Program

Within the scope of the “TUHP-Turkish Utility Helicopter Program”, T70 helicopters will be developed based on the S70i Helicopter of Sikorsky Aircraft. A total of 109 T70 Helicopters will be manufactured and delivered to Turkish Land Forces, Turkish Air Forces, General Command of Gendarmerie, Special Forces, Turkish National Police and Directorate of Forestry during next 10 years. TAI-Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. will be leading the program as a prime contractor of this program with other subcontractor companies; Sikorsky Aircraft, Aselsan, TEI and Alp Aviation.

TAI is responsible for manufacturing, final assembly operations, tests and integrated logistic support of all airframe structures and composite rotor blades. In addition to TAI’s work scope, TEI-Turkish Engine Industries will build engines under a license of GE-General Electric. Aselsan will develop and integrate avionics and will co-develop with Sikorsky Aircraft an enhanced digital cockpit known as the Integrated Modular Avionics System (IMAS); and Alp Aviation is responsible for production and assembly of landing gears, gearbox and dynamic components.

Within the scope of the Turkish Utility Helicopter Program, Turkey’s utility helicopter requirements will be met and Turkish industry will play a significant role in fulfilling domestic needs in military and civilian areas.

TUSAŞ: production of all main parts such as cabin, cockpit, tail cone, horizontal-vertical tail, main rotor pallets, tail rotor pallets, final assembly processes, testing activities and integrated logistics support.

ASELSAN Inc. : development and integration of avionics and development of helicopter cockpit with the Sikorsky.

TAI Engine Industry Inc. : Production of T700 engine. 60% domestic contribution including all moving parts.

ALP Aviation Inc. : production of landing gear, gear box detail parts and production and assembly of dynamic parts

Maximum domestic contribution from control surfaces to wiring with more than 10 domestic subcontractors. Almost entirely under license production will be provided. Also some avionics will be indigenous according to the demands of the Turkish forces and ministry. Why they wanted the Sikorsky? Because according to Turkish aviators, this is the most successful general purpose helicopter in the world.

Therefore, the main aim of the 10/12 ton general purpose / utulity helicopter project that will emerge as the continuation of the T625 project will be to produce a more efficient helicopter than the S70.

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) any chance Pakistan might look into it ? Or we are keeping ourselves to Augusta AW139 ?
The PAF chose the AW139 over the S-70 for CSAR, but the Army might be interested in the T-70 as a potential replacement for the Pumas. However, the US engine is going to be a problem, and I don't think neither us nor Turkey are interested in going through the headache.

Leonardo is also offering the AW149, which apparently has commonality with the AW139 and is also available with an ITAR-free Safran engine. Once Leonardo builds a prototype of the military-grade AW149 with the Safran Aneto, I think we'll see it in Pakistan for tests.

Alternatively, the Army can also go Project Azm on this and look to manufacture its own helicopter, possibly even join Turkey's program to develop a helicopter family (i.e., ATAK-2 and 10-ton General Purpose Helicopter).

.
Can Turkey even export it? Isn't it a version of UH-60?
T-70 has monologue body to which of indigenous equipment, functions can be easily integrated. It consists of 70% fewer parts than the UH-60L model.

New INS / GPS-assisted navigation system, advanced exhaust system, GE Hover infrared suppression system, 4 pieces of 10 inch wide GGG-compatible smart MFD, Digital Automatic Flight Control System, renewed transmission and more durable T700-GE-701D turbosaft engines as well as many new systems will be designed and integrated.

T-70 helicopter is in 10 tons class and will have approximately 200 km of operational radius with 15 fully equipped soldiers. As weapon systems, can be armed with 2 GIAT 20mm guns and 2 M134 Miniguns. The fire fighting variant will be able to carry 2.700 kg of water.

Turkey's 20-year general purpose helicopters requirement is envisaged as 300 pieces.

Final orders are as follows:

Land Forces Command: 20
Air Force Command: 6
Special Forces Command: 11
General Staff Electronic Systems Command: 2
General Command of Gendarmerie: 30
Police Headquarters: 20
General Directorate of Forestry: 20 units (fire fighting)

Also, the same number helicopter will be produced in TAI facilities and exported to abroad by Sikorsky . This sales agreement is guaranteed by the contract. In other words, at least 109 helicopters produced at TAI facilities will be exported abroad.

During this period, a total of 600 T-70 helicopters (300 units of use and 300 units of export) will be produced. However, after starting the T-625 program, it is not easy for the T-70 program to exceed 109 + 109.

T70 is based on the S70i Helicopter
TAI is licensed by Sikorsky for production for a total of 300 T-70 units (109+191 optional )
and TAI will also manufacture the S-70i Black Hawk for export sale by Sikorsky to the international market
Sikorsky and TAI will partner together to identify export markets for these Helicopters

6 helicopter projects(I think All state supported), 2 aircrafts with turbofan thrust(Both of them state supported), 1 turboprop trainer, 2 satellites(1 state supported), 3 drone programs (1 state supported)

Temel Kotil stated TAI needs just 10 years to join into league of LockheedMartin, Boeing, Skorsky and BAE system. He added that TAI helicopter group will be equal/even exceed Leonardo in helicopter markets. TAI exports around 2,3 billion $ annually today but It is estimated to reach 11 billion $ in 2028. The production facilities are planned to be able to deliver 24 Gokbey utility helicopter (passed into production) and 24 MMU stealth fighters annual(2025 first flight, 2029 first delivery).
