It's going to be most definitely under the make category, just like the FICV project. They'll need to go through private or public players, and there'll be IP issues which Russia wont even bother with.

I would like to see FMBT preferably be done in the PPP way, like the Kestral, which was done by TATA motors and VRDE.

I still think Indian authorities will iron out issues and FMBT will be based on Armata.

Remember, India does not trust US and possibility of US sanctions is always there.

Take a look at Important US Equipment India bought till now/going to buy - C 130, C 17, P 8 I, Chinook and Apache.

First two are for Strategic Airlifting, third is for ASW, fourth is for Troop Carrier and fifth one for CS.

Only 4th and 5th ones are frontline platforms.

We have no idea what it'll be base off of. There are currently 4+ companies partnering with outsiders or desi companies to make FICV. Im sure FMBT will be no different, and If im not mistaken, the private company will hold significant IP rights to the winning product, besides the manufacturing bit.

Kestral is a possible look at the wheeled version of TATA's FICV. Which was done through the PPP way(TATA-DRDO/VRDE).

DRDO/VRDE is currently working on concepts for FMBT. This should also go the PPP way where DRDO/VRDE works with TATA, etc., instead of relying on others military complex.

FMBT will not be a light Tank.

It is intended to be main strength of our Tank Forces, there is no chance of it being Light Tank.

Obviosuly, it will be lighter than Arjun and IA wants its weight around 50 Tons.
