Syrian Lion : do you like the status quo of assad retaining power? Would you not prefer geniune democracy there?
I do believe demand should come from within syria, but not sure how successful it will be.
once they topple Assad regime, Iran will have lost a crucial ally and Hezbollah will find itself in a constrained position
if you think the Americans or the israelis care a shyt about "democracy" or "elections" then boy -- you are naiive.
i'd equate it as Afghanistan Part II.......God forbid Syria become another Afghanistan. Assad family was always known to be brutal on its opposition and that is very very wrong and stupid.
there is no unified rebellion; you now have a toxic brew of militants supported by different countries and used for different purposes. In Libya, once Qaddafi fell the rebels turned their guns on eachother.
Syrian population was fairly moderate and the people seem to be more educated than in some of the other Arab countries; American and Europeans used to go to Syria to learn Arabic language at their universities. I went to Syria once (back in 1997) and it seemed like a happy country with nice people.
Who in their right mind wants to go to Syria now (except the 'whackos')
i could care less about Syrian politics or their regime; but it's sad to see an ancient country rich in culture go down a dark path.....the Syrian issue is an internal political affair.
if this becomes a standard practice -- then disband the United Nations, Hague and Geneva Conventions and tear all the other charters to shreds because they have no purpose then
because honestly, i thought in 2001 the war was supposed to be against global terrorist groups like Al Qaeda's franchises between North Africa, Arabian Peninsula and Afghanistan/Pakistan.......it almost seems to be either a myth, or a
