Syed Akbaruddin is India’s next Permanent Representative to UN - The Hindu

Senior diplomat and former high-profile spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Syed Akbaruddin has been appointed as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, succeeding Asoke Mukerji.

A 1985 batch IFS officer, Mr. Akbaruddin, currently serving as an Additional Secretary in MEA, is credited with bringing a whiff of fresh air into the Ministry’s External Publicity division during his three-and-half year tenure as the spokesperson.

He had also brought an effective mix of social and digital media into the External Publicity division.

As India’s Permanent Representative to the global body in New York, Mr. Akbaruddin’s main task would be to push for India’s bid to gain permanent membership of the UN Security Council as well as to strongly advocate its position on key issues.

Mr. Akbaruddin was Chief Coordinator of the recently-held Indo-Africa Summit here which was participated by heads of state and government of 41 countries from African continent.

He had served at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Geneva and is considered an “expert” on the West Asia where he had served in various capacities.

Vikas Swarup, author of best-selling novel Q&A which formed the basis for Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, had replaced Mr. Akbaruddin as MEA spokesperson in April.

Very good decision he is a very seasoned diplomat always look calm and composed.

Govt should also appoint nationalist muslims like Syed Atta Husnain as governors and ambassadors.

50 heads of state attended with more than half of those from Muslim countries. Pakistan media pretended nothing was happening and refused to mention or cover it. ISPR spiked all coverage in Pakistan, it was laughable.

First I read it as 'Akbaruddin Owaisi':D

Maybe because I was reading a news article, just before visiting this thread' as how a youth joined ISIS by getting inspired from certain writings of Owaisi Jr.

Forget about Pakistani media, even Indian media hardly covered this event, they were too busy with the award wapsis. And after the event got over, there was a front page article in Indian Express stating how Modi had spent lavishly on the event. As if such an event comprising 50 head of states will cost nothing.

In India merit is still valued.

For example, while Pakistanis were busy bashing Maharashtra government for banning meet for a few days in Mumbai for a Jain (not Hindu) festival, the Hindutva terrorist BJP government in Maharashtra changed rules to appoint a Muslim police commissioner of Mumbai.

Of course victimhood complex ridden individuals like @haviZsultan only see and read what their complexes allow them to.
