im not defendin anyone but it appears that ppl of swat are ready for shariah law. accordin to the news article i have posted above, close to 30000 ppl gathered to listen to him. also he discouraged ppl from raising weapons against the gov.
but yes he might create problems for pakistan.

Shariah Law can be implementation through continues struggle only ,it need islamic condusive environment in society.Which is not practically prevailing in SWAT.

Just for example medicine or engineering in one day a student can not read , it is long term process.


I think SWAT valley has very low education level as campared to other part of pakistan that is reason they are trapped.I am sure majority SWAT local people dont have knowledge of islam.

well apparently that is wat mr. sufi is tryin to create. will he be successful? thats a different question. and if ppl of swat know about islam? i will not say anything about that. wat u r sayin is only based on assumptions.

First thing which teaches islam is tolrence , we have the example of fatah Makkah , did they allow foriegn jouranlist to visit SWAT i dont think so .

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Monday that the situation in Swat was returning to normal and no one including the US should be worried about that.

Talking in Geo news program ‘Capital Talk’, Prime Minister Gilani said that he was not concerned at all with TNSM chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad’s statements. To a question, the prime minister said Pakistan knows well how to safeguard its national interests and the US special envoy Richard Holbrooke should not be worried about situation in Swat.

Methodology adopted by Sufi muhammad and co for implementation of islam was wrong,it actually will furture creat confusion in mind of western world due to their wrong steps .
Islam is religion of peace , best method of implementation of islam is through peacefull and constructive way.

There are many islamic organisation in the world working peacefully for implementation of islam even in Israel allowed them .It will be not a good deal if all over the world these peacefull efforts stopped and shariah implemented only in SWAT.

agreed. their way of implementing shariah was wrong. wat we have to see now is if the shariah which got implemented is rit or not? for that we will have to wait. cases will be decided by the judges appointed by NWFP gov. also decision will be made according to every person's (sect) belief. theoraticaly there is nothing wrong with it. but practicaly speaking in might lead to some confusion

Parallel system of govt will not be allowed in Swat: Hoti

PESHAWAR: The government would take stern action against those who spread terror and want to establish a parallel government in the province, NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said on Monday.

He said that a “national grand jirga” would be held to discuss the situation in Malakand division soon.

Talking to reporters, Hoti said that the situation in Swat was returning to normalcy and the government was trying to implement the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation at the earliest.

Hoti said the government wanted to resolve the issues of Dir and Buner through dialogue but would not allow its writ to be challenged by anyone. No one would be allowed to set up parallel government, he told reporters.

He said that peace has been established at 80 percent area of Swat. Hoti said that after the signing of the regulation by the president, the federal government has proved its sincerity with its masses.

The Swat peace accord had been signed keeping in view the wishes of the people of Malakand division, he said.

The NWFP chief minister said his government would soon start the rehabilitation in Swat and Malakand.

He asked the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to respect the feelings and wishes of the Pakhtuns and cooperate with the NWFP government in maintaining peace.

He also announced that the provincial government would establish a National Reconciliation Jirga (NRJ) at Malakand level in which all stakeholders would ensure their presence.

Earlier, addressing a ceremony, Hoti said that efforts should be made to improve the lives of mother and children. He said that the governments in the past had just increased the number of Basic Health Units in all districts without thinking that increased number of BHUs is not enough to provide health services.

He said that in the current situation, the uplifting of education and health sectors had became essential for us in order to serve masses.

He said such programmes would also be started in Kohistan and Batagram in order to provide quality health services to people of these areas.

He applauded the services of lady health workers and said his government would appoint trained midwives in all districts of province. app

Govt has sought explanation on Sufi’s statement, NA told

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday assured the National Assembly (NA) that it had asked the NWFP government to provide an explanation for TNSM chief Sufi Muhammad’s statement declaring the court system, democracy and parliament un-Islamic. Overseas Pakistanis Minister Farooq Sattar, who is also parliamentary leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, stood on a point of order and sought ruling by the speaker on Sufi’s statement. He also asked the House to revisit its resolution from last week giving the go-ahead to President Asif Ali Zardari to sign the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation. Swat Taliban vow to extend sharia law to other areas

* TTP spokesman Muslim Khan says Taliban will not disarm unconditionally
* Taliban ‘don’t care about’ local or global criticism on Nizam-e-Adl

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Muslim Khan has said sharia law would not be restricted to Malakand division, and that the Taliban will not lay down weapons unconditionally, a private TV channel reported on Monday.

Asked whether the Taliban would extend sharia law to other areas of Pakistan, Khan said: “Sure, because [the holy] Quran is not only for Malakand division. It is for all humanity, for all Muslims and we will go for the implementation of sharia in other parts of Pakistan as well. ”

He said Taliban would not lay down their weapons unconditionally. “We are Pakhtuns and every Pakhtun has a gun. We have no tanks, no helicopters or jets,” he said. Muslim Khan said the Taliban would keep their weapons if the qazi courts allowed them to.

He said nobody had asked American forces to keep their weapons on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean or to surrender, but everyone had been asking the Taliban to lay down their arms. About international criticism that the Nizam-e-Adl is a parallel system of government, the Taliban spokesman said: “We don’t care about the reaction of the government in Pakistan or abroad.”

Separately, NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti said his government would take all possible measures to uphold its writ in the troubled areas. He also said that the government would not allow a parallel system of governance to be established in Swat, and that the implementation of the Nizam-e-Adl was the responsibility of the NWFP government.

I think you are wrong pal, i know a mechanic who is from SWAT and has lived there his entire life tells me most ppl in SWAT are matric passed (himself also). There schools are very affordable and a lot of ppl go there.

People in SWAT know what they want and are smart about things and they dont want Taliban or thier sharia PERIOD.

Swat deal is a practical and intelligent compromise to stop the bloodshed. Pakistan government signed the deal from a position of weakness after having exhausted all the military options.

Taleban have taken extremist positions as a legitimate reaction to the military excesses, including bombing, straffing, artilery shelling. For too long an integral part of Pakistan was treated as an occupied territory. With the implementation of Shariah, the valley will return to normalcy on fast track. Its gonna be different, but not as bad or draconian as generally advertised on this forum.

Six troops kidnapped in Swat

MINGORA: Unidentified men kidnapped six security personnel and a driver from Swat in separate incidents on Monday, according to official sources. The sources told Daily Times that two of the troops and the driver of an ambulance were kidnapped from Charbagh area when they were returning from Khwazakhela. The four other troops were kidnapped from Khwazakhela tehsil. The sources said an operation had been launched to recover the abducted troops. Editorial: Sufi Muhammad shows true colours

Highly charged discussants who appeared on TV to defend the Nizam-e-Adl of Sufi Muhammad in Swat must have been dismayed by the TNSM boss’ latest statement in front of a mammoth gathering at Mingora: “The country’s superior courts are un-Islamic and cannot not hear appeals against decisions of the newly set up qazi courts”. He did not leave it at that and told his audience that there was no room for democracy in Islam and western democracy was a system of infidels that had divided the clerics and the people of Pakistan into factions.

Defying another benign interpretation of the “harmless” text of Nizam-e-Adl Law, he demanded that the government withdraw all judges from the Malakand-Kohistan jurisdiction and appoint qazis for courts at the district and tehsil levels. It goes without saying that he will have the power to approve or disapprove the qazis as and when they are appointed. This will be necessary to streamline the functioning of the qazi courts, venturing into areas of adjudication where the law is still uncodified. He has ended his statement with a warning that tells us where the authority lies: “The government will be responsible for all the consequences if our demands are not implemented”.

The Deobandi ulema have already signalled their acceptance of Sufi Muhammad’s Islam. One must however keep in mind that all madrassa-linked clergy has been opposed to the sharia enforced under the Constitution and has consistently insisted upon their own brand of law which functions without the “polluting” presence of such British Raj leftovers as the Penal Code. They also reject the fundamental principle of the Constitution that any law which is not repugnant to Islam should be acceptable as a part of the sharia system. Now, they will have to reconcile to the edict of Sufi Muhammad that democracy itself is repugnant to Islam.

If the religious parties — who not long ago functioned as MMA in national politics — choose to look into this edict closely, they may have much to adjust to. Maulana Samiul Haq of JUIS will have to review his observation that Nizam-e-Adl has been a fulfilment of his dreams. He will have to disband his party because taking part in politics under a democratic system is un-Islamic in the eyes of the Swat lawgiver. If the Islamic order of Sufi Muhammad rejects democracy it must, like Iran, reject all political parties, and the system of regular elections. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the most pragmatic cleric of them all, will have to pull out of the federal coalition too.

Sufi Muhammad is right in his own way when he says the jurisdiction of the Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court must be ousted. The sharia his qazis are going to practise will not accept such “infidel” accretions as the Family Law Ordinance that still guides an important area of adjudication in Pakistan. The Sufi will be particularly interested in ousting them so that they do not intervene to cancel such punishments meted out by the qazis as the cutting of hands and stoning to death. Pakistani sharia has these punishments on the statute book but the superior judiciary has always held back their execution under the Islamic concept of istehsan (benign approach in light of circumstances).

The ANP will be upset too even if it doesn’t show it. The text of the Nizam-e-Adl law was quite harmless. It thought that the provincial judiciary will get to appoint the qazis and will then exercise some supervisory role in the setting up of Darul Qaza appellate courts. Its claim that the law will fulfil the long-standing desire of the Swat people to reintroduce the sharia of the Wali of Swat will be falsified soon after the courts start handing down punishments that the Wali’s judicial system never did. The Wali’s system was cheap and quick but it was not based on sharia as there were no hudood punishments under it.

An Al Qaeda website in February this year lauded a Somali court run by an armed militia called Shabab for sentencing to death a 55-year-old politician for being guilty of “showing sympathy for Christianity”. After being riddled with bullets, his corpse was thrown into the infidels’ cemetery. And Somalia today is counted as a “failed state”

Editorial: Altaf Hussain and Pakistan’s conscience

The MQM leader-in-exile Altaf Hussain has emerged as the conscience of the nation as Sufi Muhammad of Swat apostatises him for rejecting his qazi courts. Mr Hussain was the only prominent leader — barring a hesitating President Zardari — who first expressed scepticism about the decision of the ANP to give in to the Sufi and his eccentric sharia, and then attacked it as a conspiracy to destroy the state of Pakistan.

As the politicians sitting in the Islamabad parliament supinely accepted the Sufi’s sharia courts, Mr Hussain gathered an Ulema and Mashaikh Convention in Karachi and gave a disempowered but dominant section of religious leaders an opportunity to express their reservations about the Islam that is coming to Swat under the tutelage of the Taliban. Dominated by the Barelvi scholars but including the clergy of all other denominations, the convention rejected Nizam-e-Adl and announced that “suicide attacks and murder of any person on the basis of sectarian differences is forbidden in Islam”.

Addressing the convention by telephone, Mr Hussain was able to give accurate statistics about the popular religious leaders of Swat, including more than 23 Sufis and Pirs like Pir Samiullah, Pir Sharifullah and Iftikhar Habibi, killed by the Taliban before the sharia of Sufi Muhammad was enforced in Malakand. He critiqued Sufi Muhammad’s off-hand declaration of takfir (apostatisation) of his person and raised serious objections to what the Sufi was intent on enforcing in the Malakand division of the NWFP.

Mr Hussain and his party are speaking out when most of Pakistan’s polity has been intimidated into silence. He took the moral high ground when he ousted from his party a TV anchor who had caused the death of Ahmedis in Sindh by airing a highly tendentious discussion on his programme. He has fearlessly rearticulated the pluralist ideals of the Quaid-e-Azam and announced the determination of his party to fight the Taliban when even the Pakistan army is not willing to face them.
