Audi India Starts Production of their Next Gen A6 at Aurangabad Plant

Audi India recently announced that they have begun production of their new A6 model at Aurangabad in India. Around 2,000 models of the new A6 are expected to roll off the assembly line at Aurangabad per annum, in the initial years.

The official announcement of the commencement of production was graced by dignitaries like Audi A6, Sr. Manager Quality, Kurt Romeiss; the Sr. Manager of the PreSeries Centre of Audi Neckarsulm, Jürgen Krieger; and the head of Audi India, Michael Perschke, along with the German consul general in Mumbai, Leopold-Theodor Heldman, who graced the event as a guest.

The Head of Audi India, Michael Perschke, said that their A6 production in India symbolizes their increasing presence in India and reiterates their long term obligation to their Indian customers. The start of the new A6 production goes along with their strategy for the long term and is predecessor to the much anticipated launch to be held in India this year.

The A6 is among their successful range of business sedans in the world. With the launch of the new A6, they continue to provide their customers in India exciting products which are sophisticated, sporty and progressive, features which reflect their brand DNA’s core essence of Vorsprung durch Technik.

The new Audi A6 blends in perfectly with their new A8 L models advanced technology as well as the A7 Sportback models design features, making the first real premium business limo in this segment. The A6 played an important role in their outstanding performance in this market and they are confident about the new A6 model with its dynamic performance, superior technology and distinctive appearance will help to set a new benchmark in the Indian premium car market.

The consul general of Germany in Mumbai, Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman, said that the beginning of this production along with the correlated investment that is associated with it, only confirms the significance of German auto companies in Maharashtra. He added that this investment further strengthens and diversifies the solid economic co-op. between India and Germany.

The production of the A6 will happen in 16 different work cycles on a single manufacturing line at their plant in Aurangabad. This will secure the regional employment of 126 people for the coming years. The A6 will be available in two different engine choices, a petrol motor and a diesel one.

Apart from producing the A6, Audi also produces the Q5 and the A4 at their Aurangabad plant. It has produce about 5,000 models since it began local production back in September, 2007. The company aims to produce above 4,600 models this year, compared to last year’s 2,466 models. They are targeting to produce around 6,000 models by 2015.

This year, Audi India has released many class defining models starting with the A8 L and followed by super sport models, the RS Spyder and the R8 V10. They also recently launched their A7 Sportback, a design marvel, along with the RS 5 Coupé. Apart from this their models released before 2011, the A6 and A4 complete their line up in India.

All these Audi models are available pan India, in Mumbai West, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Kochi, Pune and Ludhiana. They will soon be available in Mumbai South, Delhi West, Coimbatore, Surat and Lucknow, as well.
