They needed pgm for a war in Ukraine but they spend half their budget on a bloated navy and nuclear force

Russian fighters will be replaced by US & French fighters.

There will be no upgrade.

Sukhoi upgrade is supposed to replace Russian systems with Indian ones. Dependence on Russia will be minimum . Ever since Brahmos integration on Su-30, this has been the goal.

Bro one of the main goal of the program right now is to reduce dependence on Russian equipments whose availability would become an issue in coming months so replace them with locally made and maybe some Israeli components. One good thing that came out of the Ukraine war for us is that it that it has foced govt to (out of desperation) accelerate this program as MKIs were in a dire need of midlife upgrade. The only thing we require from Russia in this program is engines and good thing for us is that Russia is pretty sufficient when it comes to Engine technology and we shouldn't face any issues in this regard.

That sounds good. A lot of local component manufacturing must have started due to Tejas. Time to reap the benefits of that program.

No. Aircraft engines are not plug-and-play.

@Zibago I have no doubt that all critical russian components in Su30MKI (except for engines) will get replaced by Indian ones best Example is the Radar , India is going to replace the Russian PESA radar with Indian scaled up version of UTTAM AESA Radar which they developed for Tejas
What it actually means is that Indian su30mki will be able to fire French , Meteor and American Amaram missiles in addition to the Indian and Russian missiles which they already have and this is where the Indian upgrades become more lucrative than even the original Russian ones
A Russian Radar and Mission computer won’t integrate with American , French or Israeli weapons so is not the case with Indian ones Indian upgrades are making Su30MKI more flexible in terms of wepon integration
