Sukhoi chased Nirbhay missile in Test , proven system might have failed : DRDO

Over hundreds of missile scientists in Bangalore and Hyderabad have begun their investigations in the form of post-flight analysis of the aborted mission of India’s first subsonic cruise missile, Nirbhay, recently. Sources confirmed to Express on Saturday that the missile had successfully navigated two way-points during its 19-minute flight.

As reported by Express earlier, the preliminary investigations have found that the missile’s vertical lift-off, booster performance, control actuators, ignition of engine, and wing deployment performed as per the text-book format. “We found no shocks or jerks during the deployment of wings. The entire avionics functioned normally. The missile navigated through first two way-points. The missile drifted from the path due to the improper functioning of one of the electronic sub-systems,” sources said.

While all the new technologies onboard the missile is said to have done their duties, what’s worrying the DRDO scientists is that a proven system might have given up at the crucial time. “The radars located at Chandipur, Dhamra, Wheeler’s Island, Paradeep, Puri (near Konark) and Gopalpur tracked the missile. For the first time, we have had a chase aircraft in the form of a Sukhoi following the missile. The Sukhoi gave us the exact location where the missile fell after the mission was aborted,” sources said.

The scientists have planned eight to 10 way-points for the missile for its full duration (one hour, approximately 1000 km) of the flight. While DRDO refuses to accept it as a failure, considering that all systems developed for the cruise vehicle have functioned till the time the mission was aborted. “The scientists are analysing all available data, captured by various systems, placed along the course of the missile. We will be able to find out the exact cause soon and we have nothing to hide. Another Nirbhay should be ready for flight within six months,” sources said.

No one can termed it as failure. Its partial success for first test launch

What's so new in this news? It was stated in early posted threads too.

If they had chosen an open area for the test, they could have waited for the missile to reach next waypoint and try to come back on track...

It was the problem in the Turbo Fan which caused lot of vibratation, it is because of mechanical failure that terminated the test. No because of Guidance problem.

Is it official ???

I though the mechanical failure is a guess drawn out of the over vibration.

Similar second guess was the failure of software

Though the local defence authorities are tight lipped on the causes behind the technical disaster, reliable sources at the test range told ‘The New Indian Express’ that the missile veered off as snags developed in its inertial navigation system (INS), which leads a missile till its target area.

“Besides, there could be metallurgical malfunction in any of the sub-systems, which, we suspect, failed to sustain the aero-dynamic pressures. The vibration in the engine is a pointer to the fact,” the sources informed

I think I am saying exactly that. :D

It's just could be and would be as of now. Lets wait for official reason if it ever come out

If the failure was mechanical they would do the second test within few weeks. But they said 7/8 months that also give us the idea that they aren't sure yet about what happen in test

The test validated some important parameters like canister launch, Separation of Booster(which is used for initial thrust) from the missile and some other parameters.

The 8 months is period will validate some more parameters and some advanced systems as well.

So the much hyped Indian 'le indigenous' engine failed miserably...
Its good to test engines in the lab instead of onboard a multi million dollar missile test.

Laghu Shakti is a failure.

Oye TT yaar tuze kya mere aane pai daura padata hai Kay ??? Ab tak to thik tha.

ab iska matalab engine fail nikala hai to tu yaar wo TT title wapas kar ke fir se troll ban ja

Countries learn from others even USA learned its rocket tech. from Germany V2. Which means the tech. evolved over the years. People get the base tech and then they customize it and then they develop it further, enhancing its technology further, this is the cycle that is going on for decades.

The missile is a assembly of systems and a system may be working fine in a system specific test but may not work in the assembly due to various reasons. Various factors may affect its performance in the real world

Atleast we Indians know what is going on with our missile tests and DRDO is becoming more and more accountable.

What about the Pakistan nuclear capable missile test, which failed, Do you know the reasons??

I can tell you it, failed because of faulty guidance system from North Korea which even today uses kerosene as a fuel. You people do not know the real reasons behind the failure of the test because most of the things happened and still happening is buying and calling it indigenous. If my guess is correct you people might be calling for the aid of North Koreans or Chinese for an inquiry of what went wrong with failed missile test.

I don't think they will be testing anything new on the missile before they become 100% sure of its performance. And most probably they have the spare reserve missile so after finding and circling the problem they will launch it

no bro it wasn't the Engine ,Nirbhay didn't fail, infact the test was a success , we were testing this new system called "Post launch Destruction" ,yes the same Tekonology showcased during recnt Hatf V Mijjile Test when it gently crashed over dadu , as planned .:omghaha:
