Suicide bomber kills NWFP parliamentarian

MINGORA, Pakistan (Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed a Pakistani provincial parliamentarian on Tuesday at his house in the northwestern Swat Valley, an official said.

Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said Shamsher Ali, a member of the Awami National Party, was killed.

His party is part of a coalition that rules the North West Frontier Province, a Taliban stronghold.

Pakistan, battling a Taliban insurgency, launched an offensive in Swat in late April and has cleared most of the area but still faces pockets of resistance.

مگر جنگ میں مکمل فتح تک سکون سے بیٹھنا ۔۔۔اور اوور کیفیڈینٹ ہو جانا ایک بہت بڑی غلطی ہوتی ہے۔۔۔ شاید سوات میں ہونے والا خودکش حملہ یہ ہی پیغام دے رہا ہے۔۔۔
آج یونیں کونسل کانجو میں اے این پی کے رکن صوبائی اسمبلی ڈاکٹر شمشیر علی کے گھر ہونے والا خودکش حملہ۔۔۔جس میں ڈاکٹر شمشیر علی ہلاک اور ان کے دو بھائیون سمیت پندرا افراد زخمی ہوئے۔۔ تیں مینون بعد ہونے والا پہلا حملہ ہے ۔۔۔جو پاکستانی حکومت اور عوام کو یہ پیغام دے رہا ہے کہ سوات میں شدت پسند شکست ضرور پا چکے ہیں۔۔۔مگر ختم نہیں ہوئے۔۔۔ اور سوات کی عوام اور انتظامیہ کو آخری دہشتگرد کی ہلاکت یا گرفتاری تک چو کنا رہنے کی ضرورت ہے۔۔۔
آج کا واقعہ کہیں انتظامیہ کی جانب سے ضرورت سے زیادہ اعتماد کیوجہ سے تو نہیں پیش آیا ۔۔۔
اور کیا انتظامیہ نے اس سے کوئی سبق بھی سیکھا ہے۔۔۔۔

I thuaght SWAT was Cleared .

To a large extent Swat is cleared - Army/FC patrols do conduct arrests and engagements with small bands of Taliban almost every day though.

Secondly, now that Swat is open to the rest of Pakistan and people can travel back and forth, there is no way you can stop the movement of suicide bombers/explosives into Swat 100%.

Overall the stability in every part of Pakistan will be linked to imposing stability and control in FATA, and beyond that NATO and the GoA imposing stability and control in Afghanistan.

God bless his soul. ANP has been a thorn in ttp's side for quiet a while, ttp will look for every minute opertunity whenever and whereever to hurt the ANP members. But I'm very optimistic that these beasts have seen their best days and their reign of terror is comming abrubtly to a stop.

ANP MPA killed ,11 injured in Swat suicide blast: DPO

SWAT Dec 1 (APP): A suicide bomber struck the hujra of ANP MPA Dr Shamsher Ali Khan, killing him and injuring 11 others including his two brothers at village Dheri of Tehsil Kabal in Swat district on Tuesday, DPO Qazi Farooq Khan said. Shaukat Ali Khan and Muhammad Ali Khan alias Wakeel Khan, the brothers of late MPA were wounded in the deadly attack.

“The legislator was exchanging Eid greetings with his electorates when the bomber ripped through the hujra, killing Dr Shamsher Ali Khan and injuring 11 others,” he told APP by phone.

He said that the suicide bomber aged between 18 to 20 years, has used eight to 10 kilogram explosive material. Legs, shoes and other parts of the body of suicide bomber have been recovered, he added.
Dr Shamsher Ali Khan was rushed to Saidu Sharif hospital for treatment but succumbed to critically injuries. Supporters of the MPA thronged the hospital where they chanted slogans against the killers and demanded arrest of the perpetrators. The bang of explosion was heard at long distance.

The injured also include Sadique Akbar, Muhammad Shah, Rehmani Gul, Amjad, Siraj Khan, Mehar Shah, Suhjat Ali Khan and Rozi Mand.
The House of late Dr Shamsher had been blown up by militants during unrest in Swat. He left behind a widow and two daughters.

The ANP had lost its second legislator in the recent wave of terrorism, Mr. Alamzaib Khan, MPA from Peshawar, was martyred in the suicide hit when he was inspecting developmental works in his constituency.

The Spokesman of the provincial government announced the observance of the mourning in respect of their slain MPA. Quran Khwani would be held at Civil Secretariat Jamia Mosque which would be participated by high ranking officials and secretariat employees, he added.
