Four women among 12 killed as suicide bomber attacked convoy in Hangu
HANGU, Mar 05 (APP): A suicide bomber blew up himself near a convoy of passenger vehicles escorted by Thall Scouts here Friday, killing 12 persons including four women and injuring 30 others, district police said. The suicide attacker , who was on foot, detonated himself near a Parachinar bound convoy of public transport vehicles on Thal-Hangu Road near Samad petrol station in Thal Tehsil, Commissioner Kohat Division Khalid Khan Umerzai said.Emergency has been declared in all the hospitals of Hangu and Kohat division.
As many as ten persons were killed in the deadly explosion on the spot and other two succumbed to injuries in hospital. The injured, including school children, were shifted to CMH and Hospital Thal. The security forces sealed the entire area and started relief activities. Two vehicles including a passenger coach were completely destroyed.
The dead included school children, women and passengers. The dead were identified as : Safdar Ali, Hamid Ali, Haji Younas, Shabbir Hussain, Kamal Hussain, Rehmat Hussain, Bilal, Gohar Jana, Nasia, Maryyam and two unidentified.
The ijured included Suleman, Hussain Ahmed, Qadar Khan, Khudeeja Bibi, Hasham, Najeeb Ali, Chinar Gul, Gul Bibi, Islam Bibi, Asaq Hussain, Baqir Ali, Muhammad Hussain, Umar Farooq, Ali Ahmed and others.
According to bomb disposal squad, about seven kilogram explosive material was used in the blast.
It may be mentioned here that in view of fragile law and order
situation in Hangu and Kurram agency, passenger busses and flying coaches are escorted by security forces up to Parachinar.
NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan strongly condemned the deadly attack and termed it a coward act of terrorism. In a statement, he ordered a probe into the incident. Such a coward act could not deter governments determination in fight against militancy and terrorism. He said that culprits behind it would be brought to justice.
