Blast in Pak kills 8 including two anti-Taliban tribal elders

A powerful explosion ripped through a market in Bajaur tribal region of northwest Pakistan today, killing eight persons, including two anti-Taliban tribal elders, and injuring 12 others.

The nature of the blast, which occurred at the Pashat bazar in the Bajaur region at 10.50 am, could not immediately be ascertained.

Malik Mian Jan and Malik Tahsin Khan, two tribal elders who played a key role in leading an anti-Taliban 'lashkar' or militia, were among those killed by the blast, officials said.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Khar, the main town of the region located 65 km from Pashat.

Officials said three of the wounded were in a serious condition.

The Pashat market was closed following the attack.

Security forces cordoned off the site of the blast and launched a search operation.

The blast targeted Malik Mian Jan's hotel, where he was meeting other tribal elders, witnesses said.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Taliban have killed dozens of pro-government tribesmen and members of anti-militant militias in the tribal belt over the past few years.

One of the first anti-Taliban militias in Bajaur Agency was formed in Salarzai sub-division, of which Pashat is a part.

Leaders of the anti-Taliban militias had been threatened by the Taliban, local residents said.

Maybe if you would known about the topic instead of making assumptions you would have known the government/army supports these tribal lashkars and they have the help of the government/army .

Yup... 15-20 years ago whenever anyone said, "Hey... don't let anyone make their own militias!!! At least don't give them the reason to..." Then people like you came out with the same statements that you said right now! And everyone looked otherways.

They have the support of the Army and the government, right? Just wait another 10-15 years when people like you will still be hearing such news of explosions and mayhem and say, "God knows where these terrorists are coming from!".

Why display such knack of repeating the same mistake again and again?

That was a lovely rant but where did you get the idea that I supported this or not support this? All I said was that they have the support of the government/army and they are not just randomly forming militia's or are the cause of some "civil war".

Well, what these innocent people has to do with Pak army or US.......JI and JUI and Imran Khan still vocal for these element....only one solution....seal all madrassa and send all extremest mullah back to Saudia govt.....keep them for the rest of their life....these extremist are few but very violent and use Islam name as certificate to kill innocent....
