Sugar Mill mafia is trying to blackmail govt again.

They are saying that they will not open sugarcane crushing until Govt raises sugar price or gives subsidy or decreases sugar cane price.

The sugar cane crushing which would have opened by this time of the year has still not started.

My advice to govt is that this is the November crop time and crop can hold till February but mill owners cannot stay united for this long as expenses will kill them and one by one they will open so let them play the wait game and don't give into their blackmail.

simple govt should nationalize these plants or fine them until they default..you cannot keep giving subsidies on it/-..there is hardly any foreign investment they are owned mostly by politicians

second option is to ask farmers to grow something else and givem free seeds like soya bean and import sugar

Hazoor, sugar mills don't utilize all of their previous year stock yet. Their cartel is killing the farmers. I know personally many farmers who don't get money of their previous crop they sell to sugar mills.
They are controlling the domestic demand to keep the prices higher by less production. Many other industries on top of that is cement, are also involving in such criminal practice.
"Musabqati commission of Pakistan" is hand tied by the politicians.

The government doesn't have enough loss making businesses under its control. It should take over more businesses and run them into the ground!

Nationalization or expropriation is not the answer. Best thing to do is refuse to give them subsidies and let the free market play itself out. Farmers may suffer but no one forced them to farm. They decided to bear the risk of that business. Consumers may also suffer but sugar is bad for you so it's not going to hurt us if prices rise and we have to cut back on consumption!

Killing your own farmers is not a great Idea. Farm Subsidies are common even in west. Obviously not every demand can be met but there is always a middle way.

There's a difference between a subsidy and government payments to keep businesses running.

Pakistani businesses are wholefully dependent on government "subsidies" because they refuse to invest in their own businesses.

Take a look at Punjab's Brick Kilns. Are you honestly going to tell me these London travelling, children in Paris schools educated families can't afford a measly $100,000 investment in 'zigag' technologies to make the kilns efficient?

I would go into the current "media" closures of their offices due to the government not providing money to run progovernment, anti-opposition ads.
