Successful Launch of Akash SAM with indigenous Radio Frequency seeker

It is great. This missile is most likely to have dual impulse motor with 50 KM range. This is a great addition to Indian missile arsenal. Vietnam was asking for old Akash technology. We can give that to vietnam now since we have a better technology missile is available with us now.

The S-125-2ТM PECHORA-2TM air defense missile system is designed to fight modern and advanced aerial attack assets in complex jamming environment. The S-125-2ТM PECHORA-2TM air defense missile system enables efficient destruction of low-altitude and small-size targets under the conditions of all types of jamming.

In exceptional cases the air defense missile system can be employed to destroy radar-visible ground and water-surface targets.

Vietnam already has the S-125 Pechora and has been in the process of upgrading them for a few years now.

The use of command guidance alone does not serve well to any SAM users of the world who intend to use sophisticated SAM missiles, because it is imprecise/inaccurate during the last phase running in seconds, aka terminal phase = Crucial phase.

Why?

Because of the distance involved from the ground based command & control radars to its moving target. Consequently, the returned radar signals lose its resolution which start to become feeble & dull (resolution wise).

Akash upgrade this way (RF Seeker) opens a new window (for it) to engage the target with more precision and better kill probability.

Think of an eagle in a swooping mode after it has scanned its prey (rabbit) from afar that it wants to latch on to with a direct hit using its kinetic energy as a force to subdue its prey.

Missiles on the contrary have a luxury now a days with a built in proximity fuse.

A proximity fuse is a fuse designed to detonate an explosive device automatically when the distance is less than the default in its programming or when the target passes through a certain plane close to its target.

Yes, but they're not in Akash class.
It seems they also want a newer system that they can make in Vietnam. Hence Akash.
But no confirmation of course.

I dont think that Indian Military planners will give Vietnam, Indian Made Air Defenses be it Akash MK1 or Akash MK2 because Vietnam is having Chinese and Russian Equipment. And on that Chinese command center is close to Vietnam Border.

It all depends on Vietnam. India has a close relationship with Vietnam and as CCP becomes more assertive they may find Vietnamese leaning to India unless they actually give vietnam a good deal.

DAC Approves Procurement of Equipment Worth Rs 9,100 Crores

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, met here today and accorded approval for the procurement of equipment for the Defence Forces valued at over Rs 9,100 crores.

Pursuing the goal of indigenisation and self-reliance, the DAC approved procurement of two Regiments of Akash Missile Systems under 'Buy (Indian)' category from M/s BDL. The Missile to be procured is an upgraded version of the previously inducted Akash missiles and will include seeker technology, possess 360 degree coverage and will be of compact configuration with reduced signature. The upgraded Akash Weapon System is operationally critical equipment which will provide protection to vital assets.

The DAC also accorded approval for progressing Design and Development of Individual Under Water Breathing Apparatus (IUWBA) for T 90 Tanks. Developed by DRDO Lab DEBEL, the IUWBA is used by the crew of Tanks as a safety gear and is required by the Tank crew for emergency escape when negotiating water obstacles while deep fording. The DAC also accorded approval for Design and Development of Test Equipment for Guided Weapons System of T 90 Tank. The equipment is being developed by DRDO and will give an indigenous solution to the Test Equipment used for checking the Guided Weapon System of Tank T 90. The equipment earlier procured from foreign OEMs, has been developed indigenously and is in pursuit of the Government’s 'Make in India' initiative.

The Army has already inducted two regiments of Akash and last year two more regiments which are in the process of being delivered.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) which met on Tuesday accorded a procedural approval for the procurement of an improved variant of the indigenously developed Akash Surface to Air Missile (SAM) systems for the Army.

The Army has already inducted two regiments of Akash and last year two more regiments which are in the process of being delivered. The Akash system has since been upgraded and the DAC has given approval for the third and fourth regiments to be of the upgraded variant.

“The missile to be procured is an upgraded version of the previously inducted Akash missiles and will include seeker technology, possess 360 degree coverage and will be of compact configuration with reduced signature. The upgraded Akash Weapon System is operationally critical equipment which will provide protection to vital assets,” Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Akash was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme initiated in 1984 and is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

Akash has a range of 25 kms and can simultaneously engage multiple targets in all weather conditions and has a large operational envelope from a low altitude of 30 metres to a maximum of up to 20 km. Each regiment consists of six launchers with each launcher having three missiles.

The DAC also accorded approval for progressing design and development of Individual Under Water Breathing Apparatus (IUWBA) for T-90 Tanks.

Developed by Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL) of DRDO, the IUWBA is used by the tank crew as a safety gear and is required for emergency escape when negotiating water obstacles.

The DAC also accorded approval for design and development of test equipment for guided weapons system of T-90 tank which have so far been imported. The equipment is being developed by DRDO and will give an indigenous solution to the test equipment used for checking the guided weapon systems of T-90 tanks, the statement added.
