Different or special, what does it matter? India bought them much earlier, I'm sure Malaysian MKM's will have the latest technology available.
Russia's been trying for long to sell the Su-30 to a numver of countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia must gave been offered some good deal.

Bull, i did read the article. It has all the extra french goodies plus the same radar that MKI has.. plus TVC.. its bigger..more EWS, range, payload etc..

South African EW system for Malaysian Sukhois

The Malaysian government has placed an order with South African electronic warfare (EW) company Avitronics for Multi-Sensor Warning Systems ( MSWS) to be fitted to the Royal Malaysian Air Force's 18 new Sukhoi-30MK fighters.

Work on the first two phases of the order, valued at $20 million, is to commence immediately. The first phase will focus on system engineering to fully integrate the MSWS with the aircraft. The second phase of about 18 months will see a prototype developed and the production systems manufactured.

The fully integrated MSWS comprises a radar-warning system able to handle multiple simultaneous pulse Doppler and continuous wave signals, a laser-warning system, a solar blind ultra-violet missile approach warning system that can track more than eight targets simultaneously and an EW controller with an integrated defensive aids computer.

It gives audio warning of threats and shows detailed data on either a dedicated colour display or an existing colour multi-functional display. Active jamming and chaff/flare dispensers can be integrated with the system to suit the threat environment.

The MSWS is modular to facilitate tailoring to specific requirements and budget levels and can be specified to provide full spherical coverage.

The system is supplied with Pre-Flight Data Compiler and Flight Data Analyser software tools that enable the operator to tailor the system to suit the developing threat environment.

A memory-loading unit allows software to be loaded and unloaded on the flight line and various pre-flight data sets can be loaded and selected in flight as a mission proceeds. All relevant data is recorded during the mission for later downloading and analysis.

Royal Malaysian Air Force Su-30MKM will have Indian radar computers developed by DARE for the fleet as part of the mission avionics suite,while India will provide training to their pilots and wso's and spares will also be provided by hal ,while the RMAF's Su-30MKM team leader Col Syed Salim Syed Abu Bakar siad that India's experience with the Su-30 in the late 1990s until 2003 contributed in a big way to Malaysia's decision in purchase of this jets and Iaf even provided some demo sorties to some senior Malaysian pilots in india at least 5 or 6 times ,MKI hold it own advantage with 3 years MKI will be getting new RADAR and Avionics and Mid Program update

but actually mki uses french and israeli avionics and has tvc..... moreover it is soon gettin mlu in which it will be getting an aesa radar ... upgraded engine maybe al41.... major rcs reduction measures ... it might even get the mayavi ew suite .... so soon it will be way ahead of other su 30s

Yep Israeli Avionics is the best hence why they want to fit it with the JSF, and Sukhoi 30 MKI has the best of Israeli, french and SA as well as Indian systems. The new batch of MKI ordered will be tailored so they can use the brahmos missile.

Hmmm Malaysia can be offered the simple deal... You can train against our F-16 and we will train against your Sukhois...

Of course, Singapore might object which is also a close trading ally. Would have to be done super diplomatically.

Neither we have an issue with your MKM training nor would Singaporeans have. Most of the jets that are sold are sold on the basis of INDIVIDUAL-TO-DIFFERENT model rather than the old-fashioned ONE-TO-MANY. This way, jet makers get different international consortiums as a part of their long supply chain, extend regional influence through political maneuvering and expand their unit sales and reputation into areas that area highly sensitive to political ecological changes.

In layman's terms, the MKM is customized as per Malaysian conditions which share only performance similarities rather than operational similarities with us (there's a huge difference between these two parameters). Same goes for Singapore. The F-16s they use are far more advanced than yours; not to mention that they supply chain that they might have utilized to get their customizations done for their conditions would be totally different from your all-American configuration. Simply because this is the only configuration available in terms of more liberal payment options.

The reason is simply political. Nothing more.

Actually even we don't know the details, except for the fact that Russia-we-Malaysians have a tripartite agreement for MKI/MKM programs as we form the supply chain link to any further derivations of the MK series. This might strongly include even the MKV2s in the future (Vietnamese ones). With UAC loaded on work profile, supply chain delegation of work makes it easier for the Russians and at the same time gives us the mover advantage in high profile circles.

you cannot comapre that special avionics with India's coz THE MKI has WESTERN avionics in a russian aircraft...the only one of its kind.....
