Cockpit displays of some of the Su-30MKI "blanking off" affected the use of the aircraft, India has told Russia, which is the manufacturer and supplier of these fighter planes to IAF.

"Displays blanking off is a serious and critical issue affecting the exploitation of the aircraft and needs immediate resolution of the matter on priority," state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited wrote to the Russian Irkut Corporation, which builds the aircraft.

In the letter dated February 28, a top HAL functionary has stated that the head-up displays and other displays were "blanking off" during flight of the aircraft belonging to some particular batches of the Su-30MKI and the Russian side has already been informed about it.

HAL stated in the letter that the Russian side has not yet responded even after the first complaint in this regard was registered in March 2013 and the Russian adviser deployed in India was also informed about it.

The documents related to communication between Indian and Russian officials have come to light after hackers breached Russian defence firms' networks and posted the material online.

Another leaked document suggested that the delay in setting up an MRO for the Su-30MKI aircraft was "adversely affecting" the already delayed process of overhauling the fighter jets.

The delay in setting up the facility and deployment of Russian specialists was "adversely affecting the progress of the already delayed Su-30MKI overhaul programme and our commitment to IAF and the Defence Ministry on plan for setting up overhaul facilities," the official said in the letter.

If and when the threads get merged , you will see and understand why did I put the smiley there . :)

If you read the news correctly, there is no conformation by any authority on the leaked letters, somehow the source of the news are the same letters that were posted before.

I read it actually , that is an indication that other sources believe that " the hacking source " is credible enough to base a news on and the issue warrants further investigation . Something entirely different from the responses , I saw on the previous thread declaring it a Pakistani proganda and therefore , fake .

Other sources are known to pick up defence related news without authoritative confirmation/proper information.
Fact is that they based the news only on those letters, and give no hint of legitimacy of those letters. I would wait for some information from HAL/MoD, given that the news is picked up by media.

May I remind you that the same response is exhibitted by Pakistani members, and in those cases, the threads are shut down until a better source is provided? A recent example would be the news about balochi students getting thrashed for speaking balochi, which every pakistani dismissed as being from a trashy source, and the thread was promptly closed. Then mainstream sources reported it, and now there is a thread running on it in the seniors' cafe. You would know, since you have commented extensively in both threads.

Indian members are fully in the right to wait for a proper source before discussing something based on a tweet.

Speaking for myself, in that thread I did not dismiss it entirely, but merely asked for proper sources, and also gave reasons as to why I'm skeptical of the news, regardless of the source.

I got him in my sights. Oh wait, never mind. I did, I did. Oh wait, never mind. :victory1:
Aaaand, he's dead.

Moral of the story - Never pick a fight with the mighty MKI.

Why not ? Though , this isn't based on a tweet rather on hacked letters . They may be from an unconventional source but they appeared quite genuine . Anyway , a confirmation or denial may soon be on its way now that the other sources have started picking it up .

For the same reason that such threads started on Pakistani issues are closed quickly - because it is better to discuss something only after a somewhat credible source reports it. The only source the OP provided at that time were tweets.

I doubt there will be any confirmation or denial officially - the Indian military is usually very tight lipped about their equipment and inventory.
