Hungry 8-year-old boy drives 4-year-old sister to McDonalds to get cheeseburgers in the United States
NEW DELHI: When was the last time you craved greasy fast-food and how far did you go to get it? According to
reports, an 8-year-old boy drove his father's van to a McDonald's restaurant near his house in the United States. Oh, his 4-year-old sister went with him. How did he learn to drive? YouTube, of course! Apparently, they just really wanted cheeseburgers.
According to police, the child drove about 1.5 kilometres from his home with his little sister in the back of the van. The journey took him through four intersections, over railroad tracks and also required him to make a few right turns and one left turn.
"He looked up videos on YouTube on how to drive," Jacob Koehler, a police officer from East Palestine, Ohio told
Fox 8 Cleveland. According to him, witnesses said that the boy obeyed all the traffic rules including stopping for lights and staying within speed limits.
"It was remarkable," Officer Koehler told
InsideEdition.com. "He got him and his sister to McDonald's without hitting anything or running any red lights."
Police received calls from witnesses about a little boy driving a big van, Officer Koehler said.
The young boy pulled up to the McDonald's drive-thru window at around 8 pm on Sunday. Employees thought it was a prank when the children pulled up. “They thought the parents were in the back and it was a joke,” the officer added.
A family friend who was eating at the restaurant called the children's grandparents immediately.
Local police, who had arrived at the scene by then, called their parents - who were asleep at home.
The boy said he took money from his piggy bank to pay for the food and picked up the van's keys after his father went to bed early and his mother fell asleep on the couch. They had already had dinner, but "really wanted a cheeseburger," the police officer said.
In case you were wondering, the children did get to eat their burgers while they waited for their grandparents to pick them up.
