There are other possibilities called NOTAR to counter the torque. I like the trick with the coanda effect there. There are also other kinds of NOTAR.
Issue is with load capacity. Can NOTAR handle higher loads?

The only ones using NOTAR is MD Helicopters. No one else, has adopted it.

This is the heaviest NOTAR helo available, which is basically a light twin.

Yes, MD has all the patents. So no one will pay them lots of money for using this kind of NOTAR if they can use normal rear rotor without license. There are other kinds of NOTAR where the exhaust gases of the turbines are used as stream to counter the torque. But this needs high temp ceramics and coatings and will drive the costs high.
