Status of russian prisoners in Ukraine

Some users here posted videos where captured russians got executed by ukrainian forces and claimed this to be war crimes.

Its not war crimes. Russia denies that there is a war in Ukraine and calls it special military operation. It is illegal in russia to call it a war and punishable up to 15 years prison.

Russia did not declare war on Ukraine and simply attacked. Its forces hold the status of irregular combatants and the geneva convention cant be used on them. Since there is no war according to Russia, its forces cant be prisoners of war. Captured soldiers are thus irregular combatants, similar to ISIS or partisan groups.

The "detaining power" may choose to accord the individual the rights and privileges of a prisoner of war as described in the Third Geneva Convention, but is not required to do so.

Which means Ukraine can take them prisoner or execute them.

Last we checked, Greece is way off Russia or Ukraine, and your job was not to worry about people who weren't your own.

You may disagree with my opinion, fact remains that russian combatants are irregular fighters and geneva convention doesnt work for them.

You cant be prisoner of war when your own government says there is no war.

Russian combatants are not irregular fighters. They are part of the regular forces of a country. They were wearing distinct military uniforms and armbands. Therefore they were protected under the laws of the Geneva Convention.

The Russian government said that this is a "Special Operation". They may deny that this is a war,but it's still a military operation. For example,the United States sent soldiers in Syria,they didn't declare war on Syria,they called it an intervention.

In the 30 year time period of American dominance in the world scene,the Russians actually showed extreme restraint and neutrality in the majority of the conflicts and only reacted when they themselves were directly threatened by NATO's attempts to expand or distabalize the countries in their zones of influence.
Specifically in Georgia 2008 and Syria.

If anything,the ones who showed extreme arrogance and disregard for international law,were USA and Israel with maybe the British too.

The ukrainian church divided from moscow with blessing of Constantinople and Alexandria.

As you see, Putins war rips apart the church as well.
