State of the Art Articulated Buses for the Metro Bus Project

Do not worry pakistani public will turn these into toilet bowel just a matter of couple of weeks just watch it.
Lahore has been spending millions of rupees for the cleaning of the city, bought itself garbage trucks, road cleaners/side walk cleaners so I think it will be amazing.

This project is going to complete in 2 or 3 months, nice to see those good buses in pakistan Other cities could also have this facility but karachi is so big its need Metro rail project!

Initially, i supported just the metro rail underground like London. But now that they have chosen BRT, it looks like the planning has to come by looking at examples from different cities.
If you look at Delhi, Tehran, Istanbul, Guangzhou, and Mexico City, they have got both BRT and Metro Rail. I don't know about Karachi, but Lahore can definitely have 2 systems running in the future.

And only 25% of your country does :cheesy:

Even your whole ministers have said India is the largest shithole in the world...

Inia has the largest open-defecating population in the world!

Read my signature!

34% to be more precise. But despite the factor that Pakistan is more urbanized than India,You still lag behind in this area.So I won't be so happy in this area if I were you.

Circular railway project is a project of the 1990's should have been built way back then, Karachi needs something more advanced than that, lets hope for the best,

There is too much corruption in Karachi. The circular railway track is already built and what they are thinking to do now is to spend $ 2 Billion for i don't know what :argh:

Folks this is nothing special, this should have been done 4 decades earlier. Remember GTS buses YES! PPP zardari/benazir hijacked and sold them they were so good buses in 90s.

Do you know the corruption is one part of these buses being purchased...HinoPak Buses are not being purchased instead imported from elsewhere where-as HinoPak buses which are manufactured in Pakistan are not even on table for consideration mysteriously no Tender at all!

I hope these dont turn into personal toilets as what happened in India

What does this mean Idiot???

Do I need to show you ultra low entry volvo city buses that cost 80 crore INR a piece in our tier 3 cities??

Pakistan needs a policy that every city with over 2 million people will get a functioning subway system in the next 40 years.
That plus regular buses will make life so much more livable in Pakistan.
One of the main reasons I hate going back is because there is no reliable way to get around.

The problem here is that every successive government undoes all the work and plans of the previous government and tries to bring it's own. The five year plans were something that should have continued, but now they are no more.

PPP will go, the next one will bring it's own policies. All the while you would have the budget for the program of the previous government still lying somewhere (and becoming a target for corrupt officials).

We need a continuation of policies, not a change every 4-5 years.

The 5 year program were beneficial , PPP has ruined most of things that benefitted Pakistan , all they care about is their farms in a particular village

Study on to extend MBS to Multan, GT roads
LAHORE, Nov 2: Various departments concerned have formally started conducting a feasibility study for launching the Metro Bus System (MBS) Project on Multan Road and Grand Trunk (GT) Road after making operational the system on the 27km-long stretch from Gajjumatta to Shahdara.

Officials say some engineering experts of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (Tepa) and Punjab Metro Bus Authority (PMBA) were given the task to initiate a study in this regard, in collaboration with some local and foreign consultants.

“After completion of the on-going construction work of the MBS from Gajjumatta to Shahdara via Ferozepur Road, Lytton Road, Lower Mall, Bhati and Ravi Road, the government plans to execute this on Multan Road (from Thokar Niaz Beg to MAO College via Hanjarwal, Scheme Mor, Yatim Khana, Samanabad Mor and Chauburji and GT Road (from Azadi Chowk/Intersection to Ring Road). That is why the departments concerned have initiated the study for launching the MBS construction work on the two major routes of the city,” LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema told Dawn on Friday.

When asked about any further expansion of the project up to other major roads such as The Mall and Jail Road etc, he said there were no such plans.

He said the on-going study would elaborate various modalities and tasks related to smooth and uninterrupted construction of the signal-free dedicated bus corridors, bridges, underpasses, pedestrian bridges and other required allied works and facilities.

About the execution of the project, Mr Cheema said though the departments concerned had an approved administrative estimate of Rs24.8 billion for Gajjumatta-Shahdara corridor, there were chances of a little increase in the cost pushing it up to Rs27 billion. “But we hope to get it completed within (the estimated cost of) Rs24.8 billion as approved by the Punjab government,” he hastened to add.

He said the 27-km long corridor, including a huge bridge measuring 8.3km, meant for buses, had been designed in a way that it could be even used for running a train by laying rail track on it.:victory:

“Suppose if we plan to lay rail track and run train on these corridors, these could bear its load and operations as well,” he said, adding, however, presently the government would only ply buses there.

He said the six contractors of good repute — National Logistic Cell (NLC), Makksons, Sarwar and Company and two joint ventures of SKB and Al-Buraq and ZKB and Reliable — were engaged in the MBS construction.

Mr Cheema said traveling would be subsidised on the MBS. “The traveling for people through MBS will be free during the first month of its launching,” he said. And later the government would introduce a well subsidised traveling package for the citizens, he said.

He said the PMBA was also working on introducing the subsidised fare for MBS.

He said an irrigation department study was also under way for construction of a bridge on the Ravi, another major component of the MBS. He denied the reports of launching the MBS without conducting feasibility study and PC-1, saying: “How it is possible to launch such a mega project without conducting studies or approving the PC-I. Everything was done in accordance with law for launching the MBS,” Cheema claimed.
