Sri Lanka's Killing Fields-atrocities by SL army against Tamil civilians

I am a tamil and i started crying after 24 mins .....my heart is not strong enough to watch this doc to the end.....DMK and india are as much responsible for this they let this happen when they had the power to stop this but they did not .

My blood pressure is shooting uncontrollably now..... cant even type properly....i no longer need to flaunt this indian flag anymore let me just remove it.

Rajapakshe had made up his mind and has uncle Sam's support..at the end of the day, nations have no permanent friends, only interests. I am sure the DMK leadership must have felt bitter about the whole thing but the collective interest of the party and the need to remain in government overruled it..

I have no sympathies for LTTE as I feel they should have pursued their objectives through political means if they had broad based support among Tamils as they claimed, but that is no excuse for the way civilians appear to have been systematically targeted by the Srilankans with the kind of viciousness reminiscent of the Third Reich..If the evidence can be traced back to Rajapakshe, then he should be brought to justice and India should support such a move by the international community..

"Channel-4 video a fake", concludes video forensic analyst

The new Channel 4 video of alleged extra-judicial killings in Sri lanka which the new UN Rapporteur, Prof. Christof Heyns claimed as being authentic after having same tested by three US forensic experts at the Geneva sessions of the UNHRC in June 2011, has once again been determined as a fake by Mr. Siri Hewavitharana of Australia, who is one of the world's leading experts on digital video systems and former head of Cisco's Global Broadcast and Digital Video Practice division. Mr. Hewavitharana is presently the Executive Director of IPTV Systems in Sydney, Australia.

Mr. Hewavitharana's incisive comments relating to Channel 4's latest video have been published in a news report carried in the Asian Tribune of June 6, 2011, which is annexed hereto for easy reference.

It must also be mentioned here that Mr. Jonathan Taylor, the foreign affairs correspondent of the Channel 4 News of UK claimed that the gun wielding men dressed in Sri Lanka army uniforms were members of the Sri Lankan security forces and that the alleged victims were members of the Tamil community without providing any proof as to their identities other than the UN Rapporteur stating that according to experts hired by him the video was authentic.

We are aware that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tamil Tigers possessed such uniforms having overrun Sri Lankan army installations in the past, which they donned to carry out atrocities against their own Tamil people and other ethnicities. Yet other data to question the authenticity of the video, and grounds to reach other conclusions are given by us following the undernoted comments of Mr. Hewavitharana.

Channel 4 Video is Fake, Edited and Video taken by Video Camera

It seems new Channel 4 video at UN is worse than the previous one even though new video supposed to show old video clip with added drama and whole video is fake with a date indicating UTC 2009-07-15 13 :17:23 and taken by a Video Camera and Not by a mobile phone as indicated.

Worst part is UN's new Rapporteur Christof Heyns hired a new US based video specialist Mr Grant Fredericks to analyse the video. I am surprised, with his conclusion, that the video is Edited using Philips editing software and Never Came from the mobile phone since video is using an Optical Zoom which is not available in Any mobile Camera that is available to date.

To me, video editing is so obvious that all it needs is to look into the video end to see more than one video layer, and audio is also not synchronized in with the video as indicated by the previous Channel 4 video.... The technical foot print is identical on both videos indicating it is edited by the same software and by the same idiot.

Also Mr. Jeff S. Spivack is now giving different and conflicting answers but avoiding the main criticism that video is edited using a PC and he uses childish or dishonest analysis saying rudimentary editing possible on a mobile phone cannot do this type of a video... Who is he kidding?

At one part he says the video is edited using Philips software and using a PC and other part he said it cannot be done with the mobile phones editing applications.... How does he answer Mr Grant Frederick's analysis saying these are high quality video that came from a Video Camera?

What can he say about 17 frames of video that is inconsistent with the original video? This anomaly was created by a new video wrapper that try to create from original video camera to the mobile video format and if you work in this area you know why this happened, except Mr. Grant says he does not know why it happened? It will be cheaper that, UN hire clowns since only clowns speak like that.

To me these are what I call hired guns with an agenda but I would not dignify these people saying they are experts in video. They are experts in downright incompetence or dishonesty that can be bought for 30 pieces of silver....

My technical conclusion that was done with the previous and the present video is almost identical to Mr Grant Frederick's analysis.

I am really horified at the attrocities committed againts women and surrendering Tamil Tigers. Clearly as human kind we faild to preserve humanity and this footage shows that we have made little or no progress to bring the responsible to justice.
My frustration is towards the UN, India, all the super powers how did not come to the rescue of modern day crimes.

it is peace-loving tamils who should have rose up and publicly disowned any allegiance or admiration for the LTTE --which waged civil war on Sri Lanka for over 25 years.

Fake C-4 charge

Prabhakaran, in his terrorist war against the Sri Lanka, used C-4 (plastic explosives) very effectively, though he could not win the war. His followers are now dependent on a different kind of C-4 (Channel 4) to carry out their anti-Sri Lankan campaign.

Channel 4 has produced a documentary to bolster the LTTE's claim that war crimes were committed by the Sri Lankan army during the closing stages of the Vanni war in 2009. But, the discerning will see that anything is possible in this Digital Age as evident from Spielberg's fascinating cinematic creations, where dinosaurs roam and pterosaurs hover. The world is fast becoming one big digital illusion!

Channel 4 video claims to have put together, in its documentary, scenes of war crimes captured on mobile phones during the Vanni war. However, the authenticity of the much touted 'war crimes documentary' has been challenged. A non-UN expert has pointed out that the footage of a person being executed was originally filmed on a video camera contrary to Channel 4 claim that it was done on a mobile phone.

An unsubstantiated allegation does not become credible evidence of war crimes simply because a television station claims it to be true or it is widely circulated on the Internet. Following bin Laden's death, it may be recalled, a picture of his bloodied face went viral on the Internet and even the international media organisations fell hook, line and sinker for it. Many prominent newspapers printed it the world over.

But, it turned out to be a fake! Someone had digitally combined two pictures to prepare that graphic image. Authenticity of many of the Gulf War video footages and still pictures has also been questioned by experts.

I have read comments by indian members right here in this very forum openly supporting SL genocide.

we do not support this genocide mate..i am not tamil..but i do understand your feelings and i also understand that no country should make enemies before negotiating..you blame India but during rise of LTTE India had its own problems..we were not in a position to take firm stand on this issue....non-regional powers were influencing our region when India had yet to rise..
please dont blame it on India..

Deep down from the heart do you say that Sri Lankan army was with high conduct through out the war. There is a British saying "The outcome of the war is not important by the way and manner in which it is fought is important".
Clearly the Sri Lankan army committed the most henoious crimes of modern times and still you defend them for the sake of pride.
If the Gods ever existed, they will determin what will happen to the offenders in his court.

Sri Lanka rejects the Channel 4 video, says it incites hatred among communities

The Government of Sri Lanka categorically denies the allegations that it has deliberately targeted its own civilians, as the Channel 4 alleges in its film "Sri Lanka's Killing Fields".

The Government of Sri Lanka, having being fully cognizant of the plight of all civilians in Sri Lanka including children and women launched a humanitarian operation in 2008 to rescue its own people from the clutches of an unlawful group of terrorists, what was undoubtedly the largest hostage taking in the world.

Sri Lankan citizens are only too well aware of a past of blood shed and mayhem, during which they lived in fear and suspicion. They now enjoy peace and cherish that no civilian has been affected in any manner due to any act of terrorism in the country since the defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.

There is a domestic mechanism appointed by the government, the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), which is similar to such mechanisms, set up elsewhere at the end of conflict. Mindful of comparative experiences elsewhere and local sensitivities both, this Commission, which reflects the pluralistic nature of Sri Lankan polity in its own composition, has held more than 200 public sittings covering former conflict areas as well.

If the allegations levelled by Channel 4 or any other party are found to be genuine, the LLRC will take due note of all such cases and remedial measures will be taken by way of legal sanctions. This process will also take into consideration all matters that are important to the Sri Lankans living in Sri Lanka, and therefore, it should be allowed to continue without any hindrance or prejudice. It is recalled that reports of some well-known Commissions in countries with much richer resources have taken decades to see day light.

The Government of Sri Lanka is concerned about the distress the images in the Channel 4 film aired without any guarantee of their authenticity might have caused to the viewers, particularly to those belonging to different communities in Sri Lanka. This is an exercise which is carried out by a small section of international media at the behest of certain parties with vested interests and it caters only to the interests of separatist forces living outside Sri Lanka, the final objective of which is to push Sri Lanka back to war, by way of lacerating the wounds that the country is attempting to heal.

The Channel 4 film has the potential to incite hatred amongst different communities in Sri Lanka, including future generations, and thereby, adversely affect the ongoing national reconciliation process. The malicious allegations in the film regarding the conduct of the Sri Lankan Army are in striking contrast to the standards maintained by the Sri Lankan Army.

As the Channel 4 has continuously depended on footage already publicized by the LTTE websites and media bodies and also those claimed to have been supplied by the pro-LTTE lobby, the viewers may use caution in drawing any conclusions on the basis of this film. Channel 4's gross simplification of sensitive matters, on face value, insinuates only a sinister motive driven by a political agenda against Sri Lanka.

The Government of Sri Lanka continues to remain engaged with UN agencies, INGOs and peoples representatives on improving the conditions and the rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected people.

Yes. Exactly just like the moderate Muslims condemn the terrorists and fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. But then who hears them?

So your veiled justification of SL Army's extrajudicial activities can be applied to the plight of moderate voices till the scourge of religious fundamentalism is eradicated?
