As a proportion of foreign debt for Sri Lanka, Japan, WB and ADB holds more than China. China hold about 10% of total foreign debt for Sri Lanka. It's foolish to blame chinese for sri lanka's problems.

Yeah China just holds ~$3.5B of the total $35B external debt as of April 2021.

So what all happened to the loans furnished by Chinese commercial banks to fund white elephants?

If China is such a minor creditor to SL as is being projected, why is that the President of SL had to publicly ask China for restructure of loans and not any other major creditor?

Some African countries might be able to pay off the loans using natural resources. Sri Lanka has no such natural resource.

The only way forward for them I see is leasing out the infrastructure they built using borrowed money.

The short term solution is getting one loan to pay off another.

yes but even that is frought; all the monies is siphoned off. Again outsiders take complete advantage of poor or corrupt governance.
