Former minister and Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP Mahinda Samarasinghe today claimed that a mob led by United National Party (UNP) MP Palitha Thewarapperuma had forced an Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha UPFA member to kneel down at the Agalawatta town and then assaulted him. He said the incident had taken place yesterday morning prior to the opening of a SLFP party office in Agalawatta. “The mob had arrived on bicycles and in vehicles attempted to remove the decorations that had been put up. PS member Murugan Pushpakumara was also there. The mob led by the UNP MP had dragged to the town, forced him to kneel down and then assaulted him,” Mr. Samarasinghe told a news conference today. SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said UNP supporters including some of its MPs were continuing to intimidate and assault SLFP supporters in the aftermath of the presidential election.

The law should take place against anybody that breaks it, Irrespective of the political affiliation and status.. Unlike when the Rajapaksa regime when thugs, rapists and murderers of any connection to the regime was given immunity..

So glad to see the media exposing these, Something we never saw during the past 10 years due to threats from that govt.. Thankful for the reestablishment of free media

Sri Lankans like Gibbs will lick the bum of the island's new PM Ranil Wickremasinghe no matter what. These type of people who will even sell their own mother for power. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka's history is replete with such characters. The new Sri Lankan government has a clear pro-India bias and no wonder, given the intervention of India's secret service in helping to install them in power. What kind of a leader would shout and scream in public about the previous government's foreign policy and then threaten to cancel Chinese projects in the island when China - unlike India - has stood by Sri Lanka through thick and thin? India refused to help Sri Lanka militarily and then voted against Sri Lanka multiple times at the UN. Not so China.

Not my comment, this is from another Sri Lankan, but makes sense to me:

I am not an MR supporter and wanted to get rid of MR, but i am not supporting RW’s foreign policy and especially Mangala in it.

1. I dont like giving anti China signals to please india and west. It is not necessary and dangerous. China is our all weather friend. We cannot lose china. Even if we have concerns about some chinese projects there should be way to deal with them diplomatically and via dialogue with chinese .

2. RW saying MR was playing china against India and Mangala saying MR’s china tilt was too much is not good and unprofessional. I have never heard national leaders complain about foreign policies of previous leaders on foreign news channels.

Are RW and Mangala trying to impress india too much? Are they crazy?

Ranil Wickremasinghe Sri Lanka's PM is from an Anglican Christian + Buddhist background. Members of his extended family have been Christian priests. He is part of the Colombo English speaking elite - he is more fluent in English than the native Sinhalese language. Has no clue about the vast majority of Sri Lankans who live in towns and villages outside Colombo. That is why he could never win an election on his own. Always has to rely on decoys to try and get votes and grab power through the back door (which is what he did this time around with help from India). Appears soft spoken but very dictatorial and ruthless, has held onto his party leadership despite failure after failure.

He is the west's puppet. Always ready to sell the country to foreigners.

Sri Lankans like the poster 'Gibbs' are his sycophants.

With all due respect mate..Why would Sri Lanka be under the hegemony of any other ? Be it India, US or China ?? Lanka needs to do whats in best interest of it's people, Certainly not in detriment to the strong relationship it has with China.. The problem is not that, The problem is the former regime stealing the the nation dry, Stealing billions of hard earned money of it's citizens under the guise of development.. Most of it through Chinese funded mega developments.. It's not the fault of the Chinese govt.. They are there to seek investment.. It's the former corrupt regime that needed to go.. Nothing will change as far as SinoLanka relationship goes.. No Lankan govt can afford to let go of that
