Court orders release of 10 TN fishermen
MONDAY, 09 JULY 2012 16:14
A court in Sri Lanka on Monday ordered release of 10 Tamil Nadu fishermen who were taken into custody by Sri Lankan Navalmen on July 1, a top fisheries official said.

The fishermen and their boats would be handed over to the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime boundary line today or tomorrow, Assistant Director of Fisheries A. Karithikeyan told reporters in Tamil Nadu.

The fishermen, who put to sea from here, had strayed into the Lankan waters due to strong winds and rough sea.

Mannar Judicial Magistrate Anthony Pillai Jutesen warned the fishermen to be careful in future before ordering their release, he said. (PTI)

Thank You SL for the good will gesture. Hope some mechanisms are put in place where ordinary citizens like the fishermen do not get incarcerated for no fault of theirs.

SL is keeping her reputation as a civilized country that uphold human rights unlike some other wanna be...... country. Hope
SL doesn't get provoked easily and always upholds human rights.

The problem is that there is a large portion of Tamil Nadu fishermen who deliberately cross over into Sri Lankan waters and engage in poaching time and time again. They know exactly what they are doing and that it is illegal. A few others are drug traffickers and smugglers.

They are very well within Legal terms to enroach on the Island which happens to be of their Country. According to Pure Legal Terms, The Secession of any Territory is Illegal under Indian Constitution and if it has to be done needs a Ratification by a Complete Majority in Parliament which has not happened and as such is the Case. Technically, Under the Eyes of the Supreme Court(Any Decision by the Supreme Court is considered as good as a Law in India since that is not challangeable), The Island is still an Indian Territory under the Jurisdiction of the State of Tamil Nadu and the People of Domicile of Tamil Nadu have complete right over the island.
