The female members escaped a raid wearing Burqas and it makes identification impossible and getting them to remove the face veils are a bigger pain. Face coverings in public places are a threat to national security and they are already not allowed in many shops and are getting kicked out from public transport.
The government already issued a warning on another wave of attacks by female suicide bombers.

That bastard keeps hiding the fact that the proposals have the overwhelming approval of Muslim religious leaders.
The ban on face coverings was proposed by two MPs one of which is Muslim. The government then consulted the Ulamas of the ACJU who supported the proposal and launched an education campaign to educate Sri Lankan Muslims on the face coverings.
There was even an "All party-All faith conference" in the 26th during which all the issues were discussed.

A lot of women wear the Niqab, the Chador & the Hijab....only in Afghanistan and other lesser developed areas do they wear the Burqa but again, it's the choice of the women. By banning anything, whether related to religion or not, they limiting the freedoms of the inhabitants of said country.

Muslims of SL have always been loyal to the SL government, they remained so throughout the civil war, in the most difficult times.

It will be difficult for Indians to understand as your politics and government is based on hatred of Muslims and Islam.

Muslim society is highly segregated, meaning that females teach other females to cover themselves. It’s not the business nor request of Muslim males.

Those women who cover themselves, do so to emulate the Prophet Muhammad saws’s family (esp his wives and daughters.)

Many pious women throughly Muslim history donned niqab and burqa. It is a part and parcel of our religion and civilization.
