COLOMBO – Sri Lanka will support Pakistan in holding the SAARC summit in Islamabad despite strong resistance from India.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has promised to support Pakistan's bid to host the next South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit, read a Foreign Office statement issued on Wednesday.

In a meeting with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, Sirisena said that the trade body must be strengthened in order to enhance regional cooperation.

Last year, the Saarc summit was scheduled to be held in Pakistan, however, it had to be cancelled after India refused to attend the meeting.

Janjua is in Colombo along with a Pakistani delegation to hold the fifth round of bilateral political consultations with Sri Lanka. She will also launch the Pakistan Alumni Society of Sri Lanka during her stay.

Even the SAARC is useless (Indian per say) still, Sri Lankan support shows its commitment towards regional stability and betterment while going forward in arms with all the players for the people only. Also, this support for Pakistan tells more of diplomatic reltaions than SAARC alone.

SL have always considered Pakistan as it's closest regional ally, They did'nt boycott the last summit either, Even though Indian media tried in vain to portray it as Bangladesh and Bhutan did.. GOSL released a official stance which eventually exposed Indian media modus operandi

Next step is China's inclusion in SAARC, the whole SAARC will welcome it except India and Bhutan. I remember watching Goswami berating a Pakistani diplomat once because Pakistan invited China into SAARC, that seems to be one of Pakistan's goals on the other hand Mushahid Hussain on countless platforms have been talking about "greater South Asia" which includes central asia and China too. God knows what will be the future configuration of our region, so much is happening.
Founder of peace and conflict studies talks about "central asian peoples" which also includes Iran and connects Pakistan through the Pashtuns. Johan Galtung isn't no conspiracy theorist, he is very renowned researcher of peace building.

Well, Pakistan provide unconditional support during Tamil armed uprising. In other words, Pakistan help to protect the sovereignty of SriLanka.

The Fifth Sri Lanka-Pakistan Foreign Office Consultations was held on 17 October 2017 in Colombo, after a lapse of three years. Foreign Secretaries Prasad Kariyawasam and Tehmina Janjua of Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively, co-chaired the meeting.

A wide range of issues reflecting the multifaceted nature of cooperation between the two countries, were discussed. This included trade and investment, tourism, science and technology, education, immigration, defence, sports, and ways and means to deepen bilateral relations and overcome impediments for strengthening collaboration further. The ongoing close cooperation between the parliamentarians of the two countries was noted as a means for further enhancing bilateral cooperation and people-to-people contact.

In order to invigorate efforts to reach the target of US $ 1 billion trade by 2018, it was agreed to redouble trade promotion efforts. In this regard, the 2nd edition of the Pakistan Single Country Exhibition held in Colombo, and Sri Lanka’s participation consisting of a pavilion of 20 exhibitors at Expo Pakistan in November 2017 in Karachchi, with ‘Guest Country Status’, were discussed.

Investment opportunities available under the Pakistan–Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (PSFTA) explored, and issues that impede its maximum potential were discussed with a view to promoting more trade and investment under the provisions of the PSFTA. It was noted that the Advisory Committee established by the Sri Lanka–Pakistan Business Council to study trade related issues under the PSFTA, and formulate a strategy to improve exports under the agreement is an appropriate and timely initiative. Means to utilizing credit line facilities offered by Pakistan in priority projects in areas such as housing, livestock and science & technology were discussed as well.

The ongoing close defence cooperation between the two countries, in particular, training requirements of the armed forces, was reviewed, for further strengthening. Immigration procedures between the two countries were discussed with a view to streamlining processes to avoid bottle-necks and misuse.

It was agreed that the Joint Working Group (JWG) will meet soon with a view to assessing progress, and providing impetus to the implementation of MoUs/Agreements as well as other areas of cooperation including in education, sports, and in science and technology.

Foreign Secretary Janjua called on President Maithripala Sirisena on 17 October, and on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on 18 October, 2017.

No they cant, And SAARC is split down the middle in favor of China Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives in favor of China, While India, Bangladesh and Bhutan opposing it, Nepal haven't openly stated their stance

Neither can India get rid of Pakistan from SAARC, Hence the reason India is trying to promote BIMSTEC in place of SAARC

I will be more than happy to be proven wrong. Can you point me to a SL source perhaps? This is big news as far as the SAARC summit is concerned. Also, if you read again, the report clearly states "read a Foreign Office statement issued on Wednesday."

Furthermore, Here is another example of "make up" news from the same news-site:

US Vice President Mike Pence holds important discussion with PM Abbasi on telephone

US Vice President Mike Pence to visit Pakistan

Here is the statement from the Whitehouse:

This is all for internal consumption, an agenda not factual news. It's only this news site reporting this.

You clearly missed the official offices of both countries in discussion but quoted another statement that actually has no relevancy with the news/subject. However, let's Indian media claim as such what you said and see if the statement as below comes or not..... a glimpse from the past....

Surprisingly, Indian media did not post anything alike your post, yet.
