Skyline's reaction is similar to what Indians reacted wrt Pres. Obama's statement. And I do not find fault or offence in that. For everyone, they want their country to be independent of other countries' interference. Having stated that, I agree with you that India need to have Monroe doctrine so that the neighbour countries are aware that India will be a neighbour who will allow diplomacy to take the lead but if threatened will not hesitate to use military power. India have her own self-interest as well.

That is why we need to have a balance. Kind of like carrot and stick policy. But at the end of the day it is about who is calling whose bluff.
I want to point one example - SL wanted to provide Trincomalee has base to US to offset Indian influence(to take care of LTTE in 1980s) - Rajiv called Jayawardene's bluff.


India has her own fears in Indian Ocean - Likewise SL too is afraid of India as Ajtr mentioned SL will be in the shadows of India due to its proximity. It is not a one way street as people assume.
