India is a spineless country recently...
The Monarch was getting unpopular day by day. If we had installed him by force, we would have ended up in a similar situation like in Operation Ajax in Iran...where the coup against Shah was destroyed, Shah was brought back but led to the permanent souring of relation b/n US & Iranian People. See the bright side ...by removal of Monarchy the Maoists in Nepal lost all reasons to fight for and now is just a main stream political party.
Its upto srilanka to decide to be like canada or like cuba.but in both way it cant escape from the shadows of india.Skyline's reaction is similar to what Indians reacted wrt Pres. Obama's statement. And I do not find fault or offence in that. For everyone, they want their country to be independent of other countries' interference. Having stated that, I agree with you that India need to have Monroe doctrine so that the neighbour countries are aware that India will be a neighbour who will allow diplomacy to take the lead but if threatened will not hesitate to use military power. India have her own self-interest as well.
Common sense suggests that the more we drive SL away from us , the more they move towards Chinese.... not a very pretty scenario !
If you equate the peaceful nature of india as spinelessness or cowadice then God save srilanka.I wonder if Amma get to sit at the PM seat in india what will become off srilanka.India is a spineless country recently...
Its not in destiny of srilanka to escape from the shadows of india.Common sense suggests that the more we drive SL away from us , the more they move towards Chinese.... not a very pretty scenario !
You got a point but we have allowed Chinese a foothold in Nepal and Maoists are going to be anti-India though Prachanda now realises that it is not in his interest.

Nepal is the defacto 29th state of India & will remain so.
