Sri Lanka & Pakistan to Increase Military Ties

Sri Lanka & Pakistan said today that both countries stand to benefit more from increased military exchanges and training at a regular pace.

“Both countries stand to benefit more from increased military exchanges and training at a regular pace, besides sharing of counter-terrorism measures and sharing of experiences,” the APP said after the meeting between visiting President Asif Ali Zardari & Prime Minister D M Jayaratne today in Colombo.

The two leaders also discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the two countries with a focus on exploring new avenues of cooperation.

I hope Lanka and Pakistan can arrive at a deal which should see a "cooperation reservation" created where the Pak and Lankan and other "friendly" forces can train and cooperate in the struggle against those powers who seek to ignite wars in Asia. Ideally this "cooperation reservation" should enable the various branches of the respective armed and security forces to develop and operate facilities to further cooperation.

Some have asked if JFT is something Lankan are interested in -- this question is not what our focus should be on, after all, how does 20 JFT in Lankan colors effect anything - on the other hand, if a general agreement based on a strong consensus can be built, then significant numbers of Lankan pilots and airmen can be trained to operate and maintain what will be a respectable capability.
